The librarian has a specialist role teaching a range of critical literacy skills across the curriculum…

For example, the librarian teaches critical literacy skills to Int 2 Hospitality students throughout the Foods of the World unit

Learning and teaching happens - the librarian regularly creates lessons to specifically address critical literacy skills within the context of the curriculum

The librarian regularly addresses complex learning and teaching needs by preparing bespoke resources for users such as note making frames, a strategy particularly helpful for students in the lowest achieving 20%

The librarian plans and delivers critical literacy lessons to all year groups, and eases transition from school to higher education by arranging access to university libraries e.g. to provide dissertation help for AH English students.

The librarian plans and delivers reciprocal reading skills lessons to develop critical literacy to students across S1-6, including Higher Business Studies

The librarian supports a diverse range of users with complex curricular, learning and social needs throughout the school day, including before school, lunch and after school, making it a place much used by the whole school.

Learning and literacy development happens- the librarian runs lunchtime and after school clubs such as Book Group, Chess Club and Homework Club, comprising a diverse range of students, offering a range of activities.

Literacy development takes place - a successful and adaptable S1/2 reader development programme using Accelerated Reader is followed by every S1/2 English class and all SFL S1 Reading Groups (comprising students in the lowest achieving 20%) and is lead, administrated, introduced to pupils and coordinated by the librarian

Teaching and CPD takes place - the librarian plans and delivers training sessions for colleagues

Collegiate working takes place - the librarian is a member of a variety of working groups, producing materials such as reading lists in order to meet the learning needs of a wide range of students

The librarian is a digital champion. For example encouraging and teaching users to access ipad apps to facilitate reading for enjoyment and research skills.

Ownership takes place and pupils are effective contributors - the librarian trains and encourages students to become library helpers with responsibilities such as creating displays, circulating books etc

Pupils have a voice and a positive ethos is promoted- the librarian encourages pupils to participate.

Reading promotion happens- events such as World Book Day are regularly and innovatively celebrated by the librarian…e.g. through book art, and the librarian regularly organises author events and interviews
