DearPHSParentsandFamilies:
Somuchaboutourworldand“normal”wayoflivinghavecompletelychangedthismonthwiththeCovid-19Pandemic.OnFriday,March13,whichseemslikemonthsago,weexperiencedourlastdayofschoolbutattheJmewedidnotknowitwouldbeourlastdayofschoolforawhile.We’veheardinthenewsandonsocialmediathattheseareunprecedented*mesandunusualcircumstancesandallofthatistrue,althoughthosewordsandphrasesdon’tseemtobestrongenoughtoexpresstheuncomfortablefeelingwehaveaboutourlackofrouJnewithoutregularschool.InsteadofbeingatoddswithoursituaJon,wecanbeinspiredandenthusiasJctotakethisJmeathometoreflect.
OurstudentsaresomeJmesaskedtoreflectonaJmeofadversityandwhattheydidtoovercomeitorperseverethroughit.TheynowhavearealsituaJontheycanreflectupon.Howdidtheyreact?Howdidtheirlifechange?WhatwaslifelikebeforeMarch13andwhatislifelikenow?WhatdidtheydowiththeirnewfoundJmetohelpsomeoneelse(evenwhilequaranJnedathome)?IhavebeenencouragedbystudentswhohavelookedfortheposiJve,liTedupapeerorcolleagueorfamilymember,andI’vebeenespeciallyencouragedtohearfromteacherswhosaytheirstudentsreallymissthemandreallymisscomingtoschool.OurstudentshaveauniqueopportunitytoreflectonwhattheythoughtwasimportantbeforeMarch13andwhattheyknowtobeimportantnow.Wouldn’titbeinteresJngtoreadacollecJonoftheirreflecJonswhenourstudentsareelderlyorareteachingtheirgrandchildrenwhatitwaslikebackin2020?
InthespiritofbeingreflecJve,IhopeyouenjoythisediJonofthePawPrints,whichhighlightsmanyaccoladesearnedandtheacJviJesofourstudentsduring3rdquarter.Wearesoproudofourstudents,notonlyhowhardtheyhaveworkedduring3rdquarterandhowmuchtheyhaveachieved,butalsohowtheyhavenowtransiJonedtoonlinelearning.Wearealsoveryproudoftheworkofourstaff.Inlessthanaweek,wemovedfromtradiJonalschooltoremoteandonlinelearning,usingtechnologysuchaslivechats,GoogleClassroom,GoogleHangout,Canvas,andZoommeeJngstoreachourstudentsandcheckinwiththem.WemissourstudentsterriblyandthedailyinteracJonswehavewiththemandwithourclassesasawhole.WehopetoresumeregularschoolatProvidenceverysoon!

WORKING TOGETHER FOR #ONEPROV
ThesearecertainlyunusualJmesweareexperiencing.Whilewedon’tknowwhatthefutureweeksholdforourschoolsorourcommunity,IcanassureyouthatthePTSOissJllworkingtosupportfamilies,studentsandteachersatProvidenceHighSchool.
Infact,thePTSOsurprisedteacherswithhotStarbuckscoffeeanddonutsonthefirstofficialdayoftheschoolclosureonMarch16.Teacherswerehardatworkpreparingandtrainingtoofferonlinelearning,andenjoyedthesurprisetreat.VolunteersalsohelpedwithChromebookandWi-FihotspotcheckoutintheMediaCenter,andmannedthefrontdoorsasstudentsandparentscametoschooltogettheirthings.
Whileourstudentsareworkingtoprepareforonlinelearning,PTSOisworkingonseveralprojects,fromasafesocialdistanceofcourse!WeareconfirmingstudenthoursforthePresidenJalVolunteerServiceAward,administeringthePTSOScholarshipprogramwherewewillawardthreeseniorswith$1000scholarshipsonSeniorAwardsNight,andpreparingforStaffAppreciaJonWeekacJviJes,assumingalloftheseresumeasscheduled.
WearesothankfulforthesupportoftheProvidencecommunity,andwouldliketothankthoseofyouwhocontributedtoourIMPACTCampaign.Wesetagoalof$28,000thisyearandweresurprisedtoendourcampaignwithnearly$43,000indonaJonsfromfamilies.
WhileCoronavirushasalteredourJmelineabit,wearesJlllookingforwardtousingthatmoneytogivePHSamuch-neededfaceliTinthemallarea.Themallisthe“frontdoor”toPHSformanyparents,andaplacewherestudentsspendalotofJme.Wehopetomakethisamorewelcomingspaceforstudents,andaspacetoshowourPHSpride.StaytunedfordetailsonthisexciJngprojectasweareabletoworkonitoverthecomingmonths!
