Bronze Globe Valves

The majority of Hattersley bronze globevalves are inside screw pattern havingeither a screwed bonnet or union bonnetconfiguration. A wide choice of disk andseat materials is offered in this range toenable the user to select a valve mostsuited for the intended service.

The BSI Kitemark against a figurenumber in the table below indicates thatall or part of that range is Kitemarked tothe relevant British Standard.

There are five basic seat and diskarrangements available these are:

1) Metal to metal: the seat being integralwith the body.

2) Renewable nickel/copper alloy orstainless steel disk and seat.

3) Renewable composition orelastomeric disk.

4) Renewable composition elastomericdisk and nickel/copper alloy seat.

5) Vee-Reg pattern stainless steel diskand seat giving protection against wiredrawing on steam service.

For fuel and other hydrocarbon servicesViton disk facing is available on request.

The Vee-Reg Protected Disk and Seat

Wire drawing of the conventional globevalve disk and seat occurs when thevalve is in, or passing through, thecracked position. The uniqueconfiguration of the Vee-Reg disk andseat ensures that the seating surfacesare protected at this critical stage ofoperation.

Reference to the ‘Just Open’ illustrationshows that when the valve is beingopened from the fully closed position theflow across the disk and seat isseverely throttled until the seatingsurfaces are wide apart. It can also beseen that the throttling is done by non-seating surfaces so any cutting actiontaking place is not damaging the diskand seating surfaces.

When the valve lift is increased (see fullyopened illustration) the flow passesthrough the V ports which deflect thefluid away from the seating surfaces.This protective action continuesthroughout the valve lift and remainseffective when closing the valve.

Flow characteristicsIn common with other flow controlvalves, it is essential that the Vee-Regvalve is correctly sized so that themaximum valve lift movement is usedto control the flow.

Flow tests have been carried out on thewhole range of Vee-Reg valves so thataccurate sizing can be established. As aresult of these tests, graphs of HeadLoss versus Number of Turns Open,% Flowrate versus Turns Open andPressure Drop versus Flow have beencompiled and are available to engineers.

It can be seen from the graph below thatat some stage of valve operation flowthrough a Vee-Reg valve isapproximately proportional to valve lift,thus offering accurate flow control.
