Message from Father Robert:

This past Wednesday, Governor Cuomo gave permission for religious services across the state with no more than ten people in attendance. Naturally, one major question that comes to our mind is “what does this mean for us?” The short answer to that question is a lot of things ranging from the number of people who can attend to the very celebration of Mass. Ultimately, all decisions on when we can resume the Mass and celebration of the Sacraments will be made by Cardinal Dolan. In a press conference this past Thursday he was hoping in two weeks we might begin slowly in phases, which will be later detailed as soon as more information is available. In advance, thank you for your patience.

One thing that will have a direct effect on us is the number of people who can attend, and a possible seating arrangement within the church. As of now it is being recommended that we will restart at 25% capacity which means that since our church can fit roughly 400 people only 100 will be able to attend. The auditorium which can hold 604 people will only have 151 seats available. There may be designated seating for families, couples, and individuals during this time. We will also be looking at other options such as Mass in the Grotto or perhaps the Scala Santa if at all possible. Once again this is preliminary and more details will follow in the coming weeks.

As we continue in this time of lockdown we pray for an end to this epidemic and a safe reopening of public worship. Also as we celebrate Memorial Day please keep in your prayers those brave men and women who gave their lives in service to this country. Here is a prayer for Memorial Day from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. “God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride. Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters. Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace. We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord.”
