Tonight’s Opponent
Quinnipiac, now in its third year in the Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference, is located in Hamden, Connecti-
cut, at the foot of Sleeping Giant State Park, and is
home to the well-known Quinnipiac University Polling
Institute. It was founded in 1929 as the Connecticut
College of Commerce. It was renamed Quinnipiac in
1951, in honor of the Quinnipiac Indian tribe, and
moved from New Haven to the Mount Carmel section
of Hamden in 1966. It changed from Quinnipiac Col-
lege to University in July of 2000. Notable Quinnipiac
alums include former MLB relief pitcher Turk Wendell,
opera singer Arnold Voketaitis and Murray Lender,
CEO of Lender’s Bagels.

Quinnipiac This Year
The Bobcats won by two points at Hartford Decem-
ber 9 before losing their last four games, including a
12-point MAAC loss to Iona here in Hamden on
Saturday. In that game, Quinnipiac led early in the
second half before Iona built an 18-point lead.
Abdulai Bundu led Quinnipiac with 15 points and
nine rebounds. QU began the season 0-2 before
winning two of the first three home games. The
Bobcats split the Western NY MAAC trip, losing by
four points at Niagara before winning by two points
at Canisius. Quinnipiac has been led by first-year
senior guard Giovanni McLean (15.3 ppg, 4.5 rebs,
3.5 assists) and junior forward Donovan Smith (9.5
ppg, 7.2 rebs, 2.0 blocks). 6’9" sophomore Chaise
Daniels averaged 10.0 points and 5.8 rebounds,
along with 3.0 blocks per game in the first six games
but was injured December 4 at Niagara and has not
played since.
Head Bobcat
Tom Moore is in his ninth season as the head coach at
Quinnipiac. Moore enjoyed back-to-back 20-win
seasons in 2010 (23) and 2011 (22), winning the NEC
regular season title in 2010. Twice the NEC Coach of
the Year, Moore was a 13-year assistant coach at
UConn.
Rider vs. Quinnipiac
The Broncs won here in Hamden 56-53 on January
15 and Rider won at home in a sold out Broncs’
Zoo against QU 94-83 on February 19. In the last
meeting, guards Jimmie Taylor and Teddy Okereafor
combined for 43 points. Rider is 3-1 against
Quinnipiac since the Bobcats joined the MAAC.
Prior to joining the MAAC Quinnipiac played Rider
twice, losing 79-75 in 1970-71 and 89-70 in 2003-
04 in the first round of the Hawaii Hilo Tournament.
Rider lost the first time the Broncs visited TD Bank
Sports Center.
Last Time Out
In the final non-conference game of the regular season,
the Broncs won in double overtime at home against
Hartford December 30. Kahlil Thomas recorded his
third consecutive ‘double-double’ with careers highs in
both points (21) and rebounds (14). Thomas had eight
points and seven rebounds in the overtime periods.
Xavier Lundy scored five consecutive points to give
Rider a 75-74 lead, the final lead change of the game.
Khalil Alford had his first career ‘double-double’ in a
career-high 35 minutes of action off the bench with 15
points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
QU Last Year
Quinnipiac finished 9-11 in the MAAC last season,
good for sixth place. The Bobcats lost 80-74 to Marist
in the first round of the 2015 MAAC Tournament.

Head JasperManhattan is coached for the first year by Steve
Masiello, a former Manhattan assistant who comes
back to Riverside after serving as an assistant at
Louisville for six seasons. When Masiello was at
Manhattan the Jaspers went to two NCAAs and one

East). The Broncs finished the regular season 6-5 in

Rider went 4-5 in non-conference games in 2013-14

Rider in Season OpenersRider lost the season opener to Princeton November 13.
The Broncs lost the 2014-15 season opener at Princeton
64-58. Rider began the 2013-14 season with a loss on 11/
12/13 at Lehigh. The Broncs won the 2012-13 season
opener vs. Robert Morris in Alumni Gymnasium. Rider won
the 2009-10 season opener at Mississippi State. The Broncs
lost the 2011-12 opener at Robert Morris. Rider is 4-8 in
the last 12 season openers. Rider lost the 2010-11 season
opener at UMass. Rider lost the 2008-09 opener at St.
Joseph’s and the 2007-08 opener at Murray State. In 2006-
07 Rider lost the opener at NJIT. The Broncs lost to
Bucknell in both the 2005-06 and 2004-05 openers. Rider
beat Brown in the 2003-04 opener and beat Monmouth in
the 2002-03 season opener.
Rider vs. Ranked Teams
In November Rider played the third ranked team in the
nation, Maryland, and lost by seven points. In Decem-
ber Rider played the 14th ranked team in the nation,
Providence, and lost by eight points. The last time Rider
defeated a ranked team was in the 2009-10 season
opener at #18 Mississippi State.
Rider in MAACThis is Rider’s 19th season in the Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference. Rider is 187-143 in conference
play since joining the MAAC, including 15-5 last
year and 0-2 this year.

MAAC Honors Last Year
Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett was named the
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year
for guiding the Broncs to a second place finish after being
picked to finish seventh. Rider won a program-best 15
MAAC games and tied the program record with 21
regular season victories. Zedric Sadler was named the
MAAC 6th Man of the Year. Sadler played all 31 games
during the regular season, starting seven, and was fourth
on the team in scoring (7.8), second in three-point field
goal percentage (.357), second in steals (1.4), third in
assists (1.9) and third in minutes played (24.5). Sadler is
often given the task of guarding the opponents’ top
scorer. Teddy Okereafor was named Second Team
All-MAAC. Okereafor ranked third in the MAAC in
assists, fourth in steals (1.7), seventh in minutes played
(34.1), 11th in three-pointers made (1.5), 14th in free
throw percentage (.742) and 19th in scoring. In the all-
important MAAC games Okereafor averaged 12.1
points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists last year.

ESPN3 is ESPN’s live multi-screen sports network, a
24/7 destination that delivers thousands of global sports
events annually and accessible online via
WatchESPN.com. It is currently available to approxi-
mately 70 million homes at no additional cost to fans who
receive their high-speed Internet connection or video
subscription from an affiliated service provider. The
network is also available at no cost to approximately 21
million U.S. college students and U.S.-based military
personnel via computers connected to on-campus educa-
tional networks and on-base military networks. It is also
accessible through ESPN on Xbox LIVE to Gold level
members and on smartphones and tablets via the
WatchESPN app through an affiliated provider.
Ready For Prime Time
The Broncs are 0-4 on TV this year (The Comcast
Network, Big 10 Network, COX-TV, Fox Sports
network). Rider was 6-5 on TV last year (0-1 ESPN2,
0-1 ESPNU, 6-3 ESPN3). The Broncs were 4-10 on
TV in 2013-14 (3-4 ESPN3, 1-0 Comcast, 0-3
ESPNU, 0-1 Fox Sports 1, 0-1 BIG 10 Network, 0-1
Time Warner Cable). Rider was 3-3 on national broad-
casts (3-2 ESPN3, 0-1 ESPN) in 2012-13. In 2011-
12 the Broncs were 1-0 on ESPN2, 3-5 on ESPN3, 0-
1 on ESPN, 0-2 on ESPNU and 0-4 on Comcast. In
2010-11 the Broncs were 6-4 on T.V. In 2007-08
Rider was a best-ever 7-3 on national television.
And Away We Go
The Broncs are 2-5 in away games this year (wins at
Charleston Southern and Morgan State, losses at La
Salle, Maryland, URI, Fairfield, Providence) and 1-1 in
neutral site games (W Houston Baptist, L Cleveland
St). Rider was 11-5 in away games last year, not
including 0-3 on neutral court, winning at Penn, at
Hartford, at Wagner, at Marist, at Fairfield, at
Quinnipiac, at Manhattan at Saint Peter’s, at Canisius,
at Niagara and at Monmouth while losing at Princeton,
at Kansas, at Iona, at Siena and at Loyola Chicago
and to Michigan State, Georgia Tech and Santa Clara
in Orlando. The Broncs were 8-10 on the road (6-8 in
away games, 2-2 on neutral court) in 2013-14. Rider
was 10-10 on the road in 2012-13, 8-9 in away games
and 2-1 on neutral courts. The Broncs were 5-10 in
away games in 2011-12, not including 0-3 on neutral
court. Rider was 11-6 in away games in 2010-11. The
Broncs finished the 2009-10 regular season 8-8 on the
road.
Broncs on TV This YearAt least nine more Rider basketball games will be
televised this year, on The Comcast Network, the BIG
10 Network, Fox Sports Network or on the ESPN
family of networks, including ESPNU, ESPN2 and
ESPN3.
Rider in Broncs’ Zoo
Rider is 1-3 in Alumni Gymnasium this year. The Broncs
finished the regular season 10-3 in their home Alumni
Gymnasium last year. The Broncs have won 176 of
their last 251 games in Alumni Gymnasium (.700). In
2007-08 and 2008-09 the Broncs put together back-
to-back 11-2 home records. The 1993-94 season was
the best in Alumni Gym history, when Rider was 13-2,
which included three wins in the Northeast Conference
Championship tournament. Percentage-wise, 2001-02
was the best year in the Broncs’ Zoo, as Rider went 9-
1. The Broncs were 10-2 in Alumni Gym in both 1997-
98 and 2000-01.
Head Coach Kevin Baggett
Kevin Baggett was named the Rider head coach on
May 24, 2012 after serving 16 years on the Division I
level as an assistant. In his first season he led Rider to
19 wins, the CIT and was a finalist for two National
Coaching Awards. Baggett was an assistant for two
years at Rider before being named Associate Head
Coach in 2006-07. Baggett hails from Burlington, NJ
and was a 2006 inductee into the South Jersey Hall of
Fame. He was a member of the Saint Joseph’s Univer-
sity 1985-86 team that compiled a 26-6 record and
reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
He received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from
Saint Joseph’s in June, 1989. Baggett came to Rider
from the University of Maryland Baltimore County,
where he served as assistant coach from 2004-06.
Baggett has also served as an assistant coach at James
Madison, Howard, Western Kentucky and Coastal
Carolina.

Award Finalist
Rider head coach Kevin Baggett was named the
2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of
the Year after he took a team that was picked to
finish seventh in the MAAC and finished runner-up.
Rider (21-12) won a program-best 15 MAAC
games last year and tied the program record for wins
in a regular season. Coach Baggett was also one of
16 finalists for the 2015 Ben Jobe Award for the
second time in three years The Ben Jobe Award is
presented annually to the top minority coach in
Division I men’s basketball.
First Year Head Broncs
In his first season as head coach Kevin Baggett compiled
19 wins. In their first year as Rider head coaches, Clair
Bee won 19 games in 1928-29, Robert Greenwood
won 20 games in 1962-63, Dick Harter won 16 games
in 1965-66, Don Harnum won 18 games in 1997-98
and after an ‘interim’ year Tommy Dempsey won 16
games in 2006-07.

Last Nine YearsEntering this season, the Broncs compiled 165 wins in
the last nine seasons. That is the most wins of any team
in the Metropolitan New Jersey/New York area.
2016-17 Roster
Rider has signed three for the 2016-17 academic year,
Jordan Allen of Dover, Delaware, Stevie Jordan of
Bensalem, PA and Xzavier Malone of Conshohocken,
PA. Allen, a senior at Dover High School, was the state
of Delaware’s leading scorer, averaging 26.6 points per
game in 2014-15. The 6’3" sharpshooter shot 52
percent from the field and 46 percent from the three-
point line. Allen was named First Team All-Conference
and Second Team All-State. Stevie Jordan is a senior at
nationally ranked Advance Prep International in Dallas,
Texas. While at Conwell-Egan Catholic High School,
the 5’10 point guard was named the 2014-15 Pennsyl-
vania Sportswriters Class AA Player of the Year, leading
Conwell-Egan to a State Championship. The First
Team All-Catholic League honoree was also named the
2014-15 Courier Times Golden Team Player of the
Year. Jordan averaged 16.8 points per game and 4.8
assists. Malone led Plymouth Whitemarsh High School
to a 26-4 record and a Suburban One League Champi-
onship last year as a junior. The 6’4" Malone averaged
15 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while
leading the team to the District 1 AAAA Final and
PIAA State Quarterfinal round. Malone was a Second
Team All-League selection.
Looking for Some Afternoon DelightThe Broncs are 1-2 in afternoon games this year, losing
to Cleveland State before defeating Houston Baptist,
then losing at URI. Rider was 5-1 in afternoon games
last year. The Broncs were 6-4 in afternoon games in
2013-14. Rider was 10-4 in afternoon games in 2012-
13. Rider was 5-4 in afternoon games in 2011-12. The

Jazmine Fenlator ‘07. Member of the 2014 United
States Olympic Bobsled team that placed 11th with
partner Lolo Jones in Sochi and is now pilot/coach of
Jamaican Bobsled team. Was a two-time Rider Athlete
of the Year and an All-East selection in four different
track & field events. Most Outstanding Performer at
both Indoor and Outdoor MAAC Championships, leading
both teams to MAAC Titles.
Jason Thompson ‘08. Graduated from Rider in 2008
and was the 12th player picked in the 2008 NBA draft by
the Sacramento Kings and is currently playing in his first
season with the Golden State Warriors. Jason has played
in over 500 NBA games, the most in Sacramento King
history. He is a career 50 percent field goal shooter and
has shot over 66 percent from the foul line. He has
averaged 7.1 rebounds per game and 1.2 assists, along
with his 10.5 ppg average. At Rider Thompson played
122 games and compiled 2,040 points and 1,171 re-
bounds.
Richard “Digger” Phelps ’64. Played basketball and
golf at Rider, coached basketball at University of Notre
Dame, currently works with ESPN, member of Rider
Athletics Hall of Fame.
Clair Bee. An accounting professor, founded Rider
varsity sports in 1928-29 and coached football, basketball
and baseball. Compiled a 53-7 three-year record in
basketball before moving on to LIU, where he won
National Championships. A member of the Naismith
Basketball Hall of Fame, Bee wrote the popular Chip
Hilton books and invented the shot clock and the three-
second rule.
Dick Kuchen ’66. Graduated from Rider as the career
leader in rebounds and was fifth in career
scoring, made the winning fouls shots as Rider upset
NYU. Was the head coach at Cal-Berkley and Yale.
Harry Gamble ’52 Captained the last football team at
Rider (1951) and went on to be President of the Philadel-
phia Eagles. Passed away on January 28, 2014.
Jack Armstrong. An All-American pitcher for Rider in
1985 as a sophomore, went on to start the 1990 Major
League All-Star game as a rookie pitcher for the World
Champion Cincinnati Reds.
Jack Madden ’65. Graduated from Rider as the career
leader in points and rebounds in basketball and was 20-5
as a Bronc pitcher on the baseball team. Went on to
enjoy a long career as an NBA referee, including 25
NBA championship series games.
Rider in Post SeasonLast season was Rider’s fifth postseason tournament in
seven years, playing at Loyola Chicago in the CBI. In
2012-13 the Broncs played in the CIT, playing at
Hartford and at East Carolina in the CIT. In 2011
Rider played Northern Iowa in the CIT. In 2009 the
Broncs played Liberty in the CIT. In 2008 Rider played
Old Dominion in the CBI. In 1998 Rider received its
first-ever National Invitation Tournament bid and
traveled to Penn State. In 1994 Rider won the NEC
and played Connecticut in the NCAAs on Long Island.
In 1993 Rider won the Northeast Conference and
played Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament in Nash-
ville. The Broncs won the East Coast Conference
Championship in 1984 and played Richmond in the
opening round of the NCAAs at the Palestra.

Nominee
Rider junior Jimmie Taylor is one of just two MAAC
men’s basketball players to be a nominee for the
National Association of Basketball Coaches Allstate
Good Works Team. This distinguished award shines a
spotlight on a select group of student-athletes who have
shown dedication to service in their communities. In its
fourth year, the Allstate NABC Good Works Team
recognizes players at all levels of college basketball who
have made outstanding contributions in the areas of
volunteerism and civic involvement.
