MAKING IT POSSIBLE

Page 2: Brock Bourgault 2016

For more than 25 years, Bourgault Tillage Tools have been at the forefront of innovation and technical development in the tillage and seeding tools industry. This was borne out of their own farming and hands-on field experience and the realisation that leadership was sorely lacking in the research and development of tillage and seeding tools.

Speed-Loc ///

• Fast & easy point changing - a few minutes rather than hours saves time and money

• Upper stop keeps points at the same depth - critical for uniform crop emergence

• Spring-loaded pin prevents loss of points - backed by a 100% guarantee

• Durable and long-lasting - heat treated casting and stainless steel components

• Fits most types and shapes of tine - from standard to heavy duty applications

Once the tine is fitted with a Speed-Loc Adapter, the whole range of Bourgault Tillage Tools is available for use

The Benefits of the Speed-Loc Adapter

A few hits and the point is locked on.

Speed-Release Tool depresses the locking pin and the point is easily

removed by striking the top.

Upper stop ensures points run at consistent depth.

Urethane spring applies pressure to the locking pin and seats against the tine.

Special side-locking nuts should always be used to prevent vibration loosening the adapter on the tine.

Heat treated stainless steel locking pin provides a secure locking mechanism that will not rust or corrode.

Bolts seat closely in the casting to avoid twisting on the tine.

Quick Change Sweep Points ///

• Versatile system - from minimum cultivation to full tillage across the machine width

• Manufactured from high Boron steel - heat treated for longer life

• Parallel wing design - maintains original width throughout its wear life

• Superior crown design - keeps the tip sharp for good penetration as the sweep wears

• Narrow stem - causes less soil disturbance and leaves a smoother field finish

• Huge range to fit the Speed-Loc system - from standard to heavy duty applications

Benefits of Sweeps from Bourgault Tillage Tools

Bourgault Tillage Tools have a reputation for quality and durability. All points are even wearing and long lasting.

Every one is checked during manufacture for accuracy in shape and fit to the Speed-Loc Adapter.

The Narrow Stem design means the sweeps disturb less soil, which ensures good soil moisture retention and leaves a smoother field finish.

The ends of the wings are cut parallel to each other which ensures that the sweep maintains its width as it wears and provides maximum value.

The sweeps are manufactured from high Boron steel, heat treated for longer life.

The crown of the sweep is designed so that the tip stays sharp as it wears, which is important for good penetration in tough conditions.

Most sweeps are available in 6mm thickness or the better value and more durable 8mm thick versions - better suited to the UK’s abrasive and stony conditions.

Quick Change Sweep Points ///Sweep PointsThere are over 50 Speed-Loc Points to choose from: 6mm or 8mm, standard or heavy duty and seed-bed preparation or primary cultivation tools. After 12 years use in the UK a pattern of types to suit different machines in our range of soils has emerged and are usually available from stock. The most commonly used points are 8mm thick from standard duty (200 series) range. Some popular examples are shown below.

Heavy Duty Points (410 series)

12” (30.5cm) 410-PWV-1208Used on heavy duty machines such as Kverneland CLD and Pottinger Synkro.

Other heavy duty sweeps available but rarely used. Please enquire.

Other sizes available: 4” (10cm), 10” (25.4cm), 11” (28cm), 13” (33cm), 14” (35.5cm), 16” (42cm) and 18” (46cm).

Usage examples are not comprehensive and some machines use different sizes according to the conditions. For more information about converting your machine, please contact us on 01371 830358 or at [email protected]

Primary Cultivation ToolsThe range includes spikes and points with hardened and extended-wear pads to improve penetration in tough soil conditions. The wear pads, with a hardness of 52-56 HRC, increase life expectancy and give longer wear times. For deeper working, extended heavy-duty wear pads protect the pin in the Speed-Loc adapter.

SpikesIdeal for primary cultivation in very dry and hard conditions. Two versions are available:

Both are 2¼” (57mm) wide, 5⁄8” (15mm) thick and 6” (15cm) long. Use the 0215, with the extended heavy-duty wear pad, when working at greater depths.

200-SPK-0200 200-SPK-0215

Extended Wear PointsIn addition to a hardened wear pad, the point on these sweeps runs 1⁄2” (12mm) lower than the standard sweeps. This increased pitch improves penetration in hard or compacted ground.

With 4” (10cm) wings (6mm thick on the 0405, 8mm thick on the 0428) and 2¼” (57mm) wear pad. Use the 0428, with the extended heavy-duty wear pad, when working at greater depths.

5½” (14cm) or 9” (23cm) wings, 8mm thick, with extended heavy-duty wear pad for working at greater depths.

Page 11: Brock Bourgault 2016

Quick Change Drilling System ///Quick Change Seed Boot AssemblyThe quick change drilling system is comprised of four separate components: Seeding Opener, Speed-Loc adapter, Seed Boot Holder and Seed Boot. Choosing the right combination of components is determined by the crop being drilled, and is key to achieving the best results when drilling. The choices available in the Bourgault Tillage Tools range mean that you can always choose the right tool for the job, rather than having to compromise.

Adapter Holder Seed Boot

There are additional seed boot holders and seed boots available, but rarely used in UK conditions - the complete range, including accessories such as seed hose bushings to fit the seed boot holders, are part of the full range at BROCK PARTS. Some accessories are listed on page 27.

Seeding Openers

SweepsA sweep is the most frequent seeding opener used on tine drills. The sweep can match the seed boot used: the spreader seed boot is best used with the 4” (10cm) sweep (200-PWV-0400) or 5½” (14cm) sweep (200-PWV-0508); the splitter seed boot would be used with the 200-PWV-0508 or the 7” (18cm) sweep (200-PWV-0708). If a greater width of disturbance is needed while drilling, a wider sweep can be used.

SpoonsSpoons are very easy-pulling openers giving moderately low soil disturbance if working speed is kept around 7.5 km/h. When used with the straight seed boot, the 2¼” (57mm) spoon (200-SPN-0208) will provide a 2” seed spread and the 3” (76mm) spoon (300-SPN-0308) will give a 3” spread.

SpikesSpikes may be used as a seeding opener, but only to give extra penetration. They will create more disturbance than spoons.

KnivesSeeding with knives is commonly associated with drilling beans, though there are many options possible for creating narrow seed channels. The 200-KNF-0810 (pictured left) is a 3⁄4” (19mm) wide knife which is designed to work ahead of the bean seed boot and create very little disturbance. It has a chrome tip which provides reasonably long wear in non-abrasive conditions. Also available with a carbide tip (200-KNF-0811 - see below).

Carbide KnivesThere are many options for knives fitted with carbide tiles. Not only do they provide extra wear in abrasive soils, they also have a steeper angle of entry into the soil which means they will not lift and pull rocks and stumps to the surface. The 200-KNF-0811 has a 1” carbide tile for shallow drilling, the 200-KNF-0813 (pictured left) has a 3” long carbide zone for extra wear when drilling deeper.

Page 14: Brock Bourgault 2016

The Importance of the Adapter Nuts and BoltsThe Speed-Loc adapter will not be effective for long if it is not secured to the tine properly. Each adapter has a designated bolt type and size: Imperial (1⁄2” or 7/16” over-size head ), Metric (M12 10.9), Plough or Hexagon (as detailed on Page 8). The casting of the adapter is designed to accept the head and thickness of the designated bolt and it is essential that the correct one is used. Similarly, a corresponding Imperial (1⁄2” or 7/16” Grade 8 side-locking) or Metric (M12 stover locking) nut must be used to ensure a secure fit to the tine that will not be loosened by vibration.

The Ideal AngleFor best results and longest wear times Bourgault sweep points should be fitted so the angle of entry into the soil is between 2° and 5° from the horizontal. Speed-Loc Adapters ensure this on most machines, but some may also need one of the angled wedges shown below.

To check the angle, fit one or two tines with an adapter and sweep, stand the machine on level concrete and measure the height between the back tip of the sweep and the ground.

Sweep width Pitch height range

5.5” / 14cm 4 - 10mm

7”/18cm 5 - 13mm

9”/23cm 6 - 17mm

The urethane tine wedges alter the pitch of the point on the Speed-Loc Adapter. The ideal angle for longest wear time of the point is between 2-5° from the horizontal.

Decreasing Pitch Increasing Pitch

If the pitch height is outside the ideal range, a urethane plastic wedge is used to change the distance by the amount shown.
