initiatives.The Proleads database of healthcareprojects shows that Saudi Arabia isin the midst of a major constructionprogramme with a total of 83projects ranging from the $400million King Saud UniversityMedical City in Riyadh to the $5million Qatif Central Hospitalexpansion in the Eastern Province.Qatar has two projects currentlyunderway but one alone is theregions biggest and most ambitious the Sidra Medical and ResearchCentre which forms part of DohasEducation City development andbudgeted at $2.3 billion.In the United Arab Emirates, thebiggest project currently underway

is the $1.9 billion rst phase ofthe Cleveland Clinic Al SuwwaIsland development in Abu Dhabi.Second biggest is the Mohammedbin Rashid al Maktoum AcademicMedical Centre in Dubai HealthcareCity budgeted at $572 million.Kuwait has a major hospital projectcurrently under construction -the $1.2 billion Jaber Al AhmedAl Sabah Hospital. Bahrain,meanwhile, is spending $130million on the King Hamad GeneralHospital.
