Oenophilia For the love of wine

Wine Society Chinese University of Hong Kong The Wine Society was founded by a group of wine lovers in 2011 and it is the first wine society established at university level. The Society organizes regular wine tasting workshops, wine dinners, visits to vineyards, wine companies and international wine fairs. Every year, the Society sends members to take part in the Left Bank Bordeaux Cup. In 2011, we were awarded World No.2.

The Wine Society of the Chinese

University of Hong Kong aims at

providing opportunities for student

wine lovers to explore and

understand more about wine. We

firmly believe that wine tasting is

not only about enjoyment of wine

but also the pursuit of wine

knowledge and socializing in

different occasions.

The Wine Society organizes a

range of activities throughout the

year. They include regular wine

tasting workshops, wine dinners,

visits to vineyards and

international wine fairs. The

Society has also established a

Wine Team (named Dream Team).

Every year, we take part in the Left

Bank Bordeaux Cup (previously

named 20 Sur Vin) held in

Bordeaux, France.

Wine Tasting Workshops

Enjoyment of, and interest in, wine

is no longer the preserve of those

greeted at birth with a pipe of port

and schooled in claret

appreciation from the cradle on.

Appreciation of wine is open to

everyone today, including student

wine lovers.

In light of this, every week, we

hold a wine tasting workshop

featuring wines from different

regions and different topics of

interest. The size of the workshops

differs from 10 (focus group) to 40

and they are usually held on

school campus in the University

Bar (Si Yuan Amenities, United

College).

We work closely with the Hong

Kong Wine Merchants’ Chamber of

commerce, Kung Kai Hong, Wine

Judges Association, big and small

wine cellars and wine companies

in organizing the wine tasting

workshops. Workshops feature

wine glass tasting, food pairing,

wine judging and tasting French

wine, Italian wine, Spanish wine,

California wine, Chinese wine and

Portuguese wine.

Wine Dinner

The Wine Society is honored to

have tremendous support from

different walks of life, especially

people in the wine industry. Every

year, we hold a Wine Dinner

inviting our honorary advisor,

sommeliers, representatives from

wine companies and members of

the Wine Team. Apart from the

Annual Wine Dinner, we also

attend private wine dinners held

by different wine cellars and wine

companies.

Visits to Vineyard

With the support from Grace

Vineyard, every year members of

our Society visit the vineyard and

learn more about the growth of

grapes, the climate and geography

of the region and how it affects the

wine.

Visits to International Wine Fair

The Wine Society organizes tours

to International Wine Fairs

including Vinexpo, Hong Kong

International Wine and Spirits Fair,

Wine and Dine Festival and Wine

HK. Our honorary advisor leads

the tour and introduces the wines

from different countries.

Member Welfares

With the support from different

wine companies and cellars,

members of our Society enjoy

discounts and privileges in many

stores. The discounts cover

stemware, accessories, wines and

wine books.

Wine Team Intensive Training

Members with an avid interest and

potential in wine can apply to be

part of the Wine Team. We provide

intensive training for the potential

members and we select the best

out of the best by a formal

selection.

Membership All undergraduates taking a bachelor degree in the Chinese University of Hong Kong are eligible to be a member. Currently we have a total of 620 members from different faculties (including law, medicine, business and arts) Alumni also take an important role in our Society. They coach the Dream Team and offer tremendous support to Wine Society.

Dream Team Where your dreams come true

Intensive Training

Training sessions for the Dream

Team are tailor-made by our

coach, Mr. Raymond Luk. They

take place every week with a

blind tasting and a detailed

analysis on the region of the

wine.

Internal Selection

Every year, only 3 students are

selected to become part of the

Dream Team family. After a

series of intensive training

sessions, an internal selection is

held to select 3 members with

best performance. The internal

selection invites renowned wine

judges and sommeliers.
