This will be the 5th course of the successful and

well received series of Maternal Medicine

courses organised by the Department of

    Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Singapore General

Hospital. Maternal medicine refers to the

management of medical disorders in pregnancy,

which are many, and this two course course

focuses on the more important and commonmedical conditions. Obstetric medicine is often

daunting to both obstetricians, who may feel

inadequately trained in general medicine, and

also to physicians who may be uncomfortable

with managing a woman with a constantly

changing physiology and a developing baby on

    board.

This course is therefore aimed at both

obstetricians and physicians caring for pregnantwomen, hoping to put all at ease and dispel any

misconceptions about management so as to

optimise obstetric outcomes. As in previous

courses, we are very fortunate in having some of

the foremost international experts in Obstetric

Medicine . Our key speakers this time, Prof Bill

Hague and Prof Sandra Lowe both hail from

Australia, and between them have a considerable

experience in dealing with medical problems in

    pregnancy.

This course promises to be intensive and

stimulating, and I look forward to seeing you.
