India is in the global epicentre of a power revolution. The fast
growing Indian economy needs affordable, sustainable and
uninterrupted electricity for enduring success, growth and move
the Indian economy to greater heights. This drive has propelled
the Indian electricity sector as the worlds 6th largest energy
consumer, accounting for 3.4% of global energy consumption by
more than 17% of global population.
The Indian Power sector is going through a US$600 Bn
modernisation and capacity addition phase, an immense
opportunity for those involved with the power sector covering the
entire spectrum of the industry, from generation, transmission,
distrbution and consumption. The key characteristic of this
phase is the focus on futuristic technologies in the fields of
sustainability, conservation, optimisation and environment
friendly consumption. Newer technologies and systems like
SmartGrids and renewable energy sources form part of this new
paradigm.
This paradigm shift requires thousands of next-gen
ELECTROTECH engineers who are global, versatile, quick,
innovative and adaptable to the changing requirements of the
industry. Drawn from all disciplines of engineering including
electrical, electronics, instrumentation, mechanical, production,
power and industrial engineering. This new breed of engineers
are primed to adapt to the dynamic needs of Indias dynamic and
exponentially growing sector, a phenomenon we call THE INDIA
POWER FACTOR.
IEEMA, as the voice of the Indian Electrical Industry has taken the
initiative to engage with the academic community productively
to leverage the available engineering talent of ELECTROTECH
engineers who can power the future. This initiative, ENGINEER
INFINITE, was started succesfully in 2010. IEEMA believes that
through ENGINEER INFINITE, the Industry and the academic
community get to join hands to address the opportunities and
challenges of building the future of the Indian power sector.
Calling Engineers to build a brave new future!
Often the biggest innovations
dont come from
million dollar R&D centres.
They come from college labs,
campuses and garages, driven by visionaries
with guts, gumption and resilience.
Its time for Indias best
ELECTROTECH talents to showcase
their best, afterall they are the backbone of
THE INDIA POWER FACTOR.

What is EI12?EI12 is the Student Project Competition to be held in conjunction with
ELECRAMA-2012 (the worlds largest exhibition for Power Transmission &
Distribution community) exhibition which will be held from 18th to 22nd January, 2012
at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.
(For complete details on the exhibition please visit www.elecrama.com).
This competition encourages students of engineering (UG, PG and Diploma programs)
to apply their learning at their colleges and their own creativity to practical
applications on problems that need attention, in the electrical energy sector.
Competition Rules:Description:EI12 is the student project competition
organised by IEEMA for final display and
selection during ELECRAMA-2012 (The Worlds
Largest Power Transmission & Distribution
exhibition )
Objective:The participants would be required to build
and demonstrate a working model or build
and display a simulated model using specified
technical software.
Such model should address any problem
covered within the Project Areas. In general
a Project area would cover One Technology
Area and One Result Area. Projects addressing
issue covering more than one technology area
and/or Result Area will also be considered.
Selected project entries would be given
financial grant for building the model.
Eligibility:Eligible Institutions:
Universities, Deemed Universities,
and Colleges offering Graduate and Post
Graduate Technology/ Engineering Degrees,
Post Graduate Engineering Diploma,
Polytechnics offering Diploma Programs.
The participating institutions must have
commenced their Diploma/Graduate/ Post
Graduate Degree/Diploma Programmes
during academic year 2002-03 or earlier.
Institutions like IITs, NITs and NPTIs.
The list published by AICTE for the year
2009-10 will be used as the main resource
to identify eligible institutions. In addition,
IEEMA may use other resources as well,
including their own research.
Eligible Students:Students of Full Time Programs will be eligible
as mentioned below:
Final and pre-final year students of Graduateand Post Graduate Programmes
Final Year Students of Diploma/

In addition, branches that are allied to the above
core branches are also eligible to participate, as
long as they are related to Electrical Energy, namely
Production Engineering
Industrial Engineering
Power Engineering
The degree/diploma may lead to any combination of
these subjects.
PostGraduateStudentsofanyspecialisationin
any of the above mentioned subjects.
Project Areas:Each project must involve ONE Technology area and
achieve outcome as per ONE Result area. Combination
of more than one area is also permissible. The
Technology and Result areas are given below:
Technology Areas :
Electricity Generation & Transmission
Electricity Distribution (Medium & Low Voltage)

Achieving Cost Reduction, including
cost reduction through alternative
material and processes
Functional and/or Productivity
enhancement of products and
processes
New Products/ Processes resulting in any
of the above
What Constitutesa Project? For this competition, both working model
projects and simulation projects are accepted.
As far as possible, working model projects
should be submitted. Simulation projects
will be accepted for consideration when
such a working model is not practical due to
involvement of very high voltages/ currents
that are difficult to be provided at the venue,
a novel design, large size, long distance,
computer programs controlling a process and
such situations.
Participants must specify, in their initial
submission, whether the concept will be
demonstrated through a working model or bysimulation. Where the mode of demonstration
is through Simulation, the EI Expert
Committee may give guidance and suggest
a Working Model. The decision of the Expert
Committee whether it should be a Working
or Simulated Model will be final and binding.
Both types of projects need to adhere to the
conditions of Project areas (Technology area
and Results area).
General guidelines for each type of project
follow .

5/8
Working Model Project:An acceptable project will constitute a working model
that can be described as per the Technology Areas
and Result Areas mentioned above, designed with the
use of engineering principles based on theoretical
concepts that can be demonstrated through a
working prototype. Results are to be supported by
test data, where applicable, that can be repeated if
required.
Simulation Project:An acceptable model will constitute a simulated
working model involving a new design, new systemusing specific computer programs, new control
system, etc. Such a simulation must be done using
licensed software such as MATLAB, LABVIEW, etc.
Participants have to make their own arrangement
to obtain such licensed software. EI organisers will,
if required, provide participation letter or such other
documentation for this purpose. Financial grant
provided for modelling may be utilised for procuring
necessary software, subject to limits.
IMPORTANT:A project work already being pursued as a part
of the Diploma, Under Graduate or Post Graduate
