Language Courses English – French - Dutch 2012

ABCzaam npo promotes the learning of foreign languages for youngsters. In all our activities, the participants are "immerged" in the language they learn. We organize language courses in Dutch, French and English. The goal of these courses is to help the participants to become autonomous in the language of their choice. This way, they become bilingual after three or four courses

of two weeks. ABCzaam is present in Flanders (Malines, Wemmel, Genk, Koksijde) as well as in Wallonia (Saint-Hubert) and even in Austria with a skiing course in Dutch.

ABCzaam also carries out city visits for schools in Liège, Namur, Lille (France), Bruges, Antwerp and Maastricht (Netherlands).

All of our activities meet high quality standards. The participants are placed in a language project that is realistic, ambitious and above all attractive. Our methods have already proven their efficiency since many generations. The supervisory staff, with one adult for three participants, helps us reach our goals. Every year, A team of about a hundred motivated volunteers are committed to giving youngsters the opportunity to learn foreign languages in a fun way. We learn a foreign language the same way we learned our mother tongue. That is why only a complete language immersion can be really efficient. These are our main goals:

1. Respect for the target language.

The participants must always express themselves in the target language of the course. 2. Having fun in a foreign language.

The thing we are most proud of at ABCzaam is that we give youngsters the hunger to learn a foreign language. They are motivated because they become multilingual whilst having a lot of fun. The results that we obtain keep surprising the participants, their parents and the language instructors.

3. A reassuring and permanent presence.

Our staff is elaborate and of high quality. Their role is to encourage the participants, to help them improve themselves and to motivate them. The language instructors are permanently, actively present: they encourage the participants to talk, they listen and correct them the whole day. The team consists of a course director, a head teacher, a head assistant, an administrator, a first aid responsible, a bartender, a cook, kitchen staff, one teacher per ten pupils and one assistant per ten pupils. This means that there is about one adult for three youngsters present.

4. Encouraging correction. In order to help the participants evolve, the language instructors always correct their errors in a friendly and encouraging way.

We are looking for motivated language instructors who are fluent in the target language of the Course of their choice : English, French or Dutch. A language instructor is at least 18 years old and can apply to 2 different functions : social activities assistant or teacher.

a) Social activities assistants. The assistants organize the animation during the Language Course. Their main activities are sports, group games, creative workshops, singing, special evening activities (quiz, film, …). A head assistant helps them to prepare the different activities.

b) Teachers. The teachers teach 5 classes a day, to a

group of 10 pupils. The main focus is on oral expression. Half of the lessons have already been prepared. The teachers can rely on a lot of teaching aids. A head teacher accompanies them in the preparation of their lessons.

The teachers also participate in some of the social activities.
