A distinctive, stone homestead which was once the heart of Nelson’s largest estate. Isel House is still surrounded by parkland which is the legacy of the Marsden family, who were not just farmers, but also keen botanists. Peel back the layers of history inside the house with exhibits and collections that celebrate the house, its families and heritage of our community.

• Climb the ornate timber staircase, wander alongside panelled walls and see the stunning stained-glass skylight.

• Discover the Marsden Collection – fine ceramic treasures, 17–19th century European furniture and paintings.

• Relax with a cuppa and a bite to eat at the Garden Window Café.

Walk through the door of this colonial cob cottage and take a step back in time. Wander through Victorian rooms, elaborately furnished with ornaments and art from Nelson’s past. Learn about the families who lived here and experience domestic life for early settlers.

• Enjoy various exhibitions throughout the year and see garments on display from Broadgreen’s significant textile and period costume collection.

• Explore the “box room”, an interactive activity space for children to dress up, play and learn about history.

• Go behind the scenes and explore the gentleman’s study and the servants fully equipped kitchen and dairy.

One of the city’s grandest historic homes, situated in Nelson’s upmarket “dress circle”. This is a home of wealth and influence, now lovingly restored and managed by the community. You are invited to enjoy this grand architectural treasure and extensive mature garden.
