RAI & MPEG DASH

1) Rai sees MPEG DASH as the potential unifying technologyfor WebTV and OTT services

2) Rai intends to evaluate the implications of extending the existing infrastructure based on Microsoft Smooth Streaming and Apple HLS towards a DASH-compliant “back-end”• Manifest files conversion to MPD format• Reuse of existing encoded and fragmented video content • Some Rai material could be provided for testing purposes

3) Rai intends to follow the state-of-the-art of DASH integration in HTML5 and DASH adoption by other SDOs• Which profiles should be included?• TS vs. MP4• DRM issues

4) Trial (under consideration)In co-operation withST Microelectronics
