    Broad Band & Multiplay

  • For circulation to Trainees only

    What is Broadband?

An always-on data connection that is able to

    support interactive services including Internet

access and has the capability of the minimum

download speed of 512Mbps to an individual

subscriber from the Point Of Presence (POP)

    of the service provider.

    What is Multiplay Broadband?

Multiplay is an extension of Triple-Play technology,

meaning, running all sorts of services on the same

medium. Multiplay aims to make your telephone wire

carry multiple applications of voice, data and video

through the Set Top Box. Multiplay will strive to be your

one stop solution for all your information,

    communication and entertainment needs.

BSNL will be offering services like Video-On-

    Demand, Radio, Television Channels,

    T-Education, T-commerce, Virtual Shopping,

    Video-Conferencing, Audio-On-Demand and

    many more.

    Components of BB Networks

Customer premises Equipment ( CPE) : It is consist of

Two part . One part is Splitter which separate the voice data

and Internet data and an ADSL modem based on ADSL2+

Standard which send/ Received customer request to DSLAM.

Data Between Modem and DSLAM is Follow ATM Protocol.

DSLAM : It is a digital subscriber line Access Multiplexer. It

mux and demux the voice and data packets and Change

packets from ATM packet to VLAN ( Ethernet packets ). It

send the packet to customer virtual LAN which is established

between BRAS/BNG and DSLAM during set up of connection.

Tier 2 Switch : This is aggregation switch which aggregate

the packets coming from different DSLAM.

  • For circulation to Trainees only

Components of BB Networks Tier 1 Switch :This is aggregation switch which aggregate the

packets coming from different Tier 2 Switch.

Broad Band Network Gateway ( BNG) : This is intelligent

router which is responsible for routing the packets, allotting the

dynamic/static public IP to customer, start the session, stop the

session, control the customer speed, communicate with

    Authentication server, DNS server etc.

Broad band Remote Access Server ( BRAS)/BNG: This is

a intelligent router which is responsible for routing the packets,

allotting the dynamic/static public IP to customer, start the

session, stop the session, control the customer speed,

communicate with Authentication server, DNS server etc.

All connectivity are build using fibers up to DSLAM Level.

Only the connectivity between DSLAM and CPE is on the

    Copper wire.

    Components of Core Network

Edge Routers : Routers routes the packets to

neighbours router as per destination IP Address.

MPLS: It is a multi protocol level switching system

which are builded by connecting using different

routers. It is a system that lies between data link

layer and network layer. All routers are connected

with STM-16 and have mesh connectivity to one other.

Core Router: Core router is Part of MPLS network

which is connected to International Gateway routers

    for internet traffic.

    Core Data Network

    Metro Cities= Fully Mesh STM-16

Big Cities = Dual Home connected with STM-16 to Metro cities

Medium cities= Dual Home connected with STM-16 to Metro or Big cities

Small Cities = Dual Home connected with STM-1 to Metro, Big or Medium cities

Small District nodes = Only PE router connected to nearest Core router with STM-1

Broad band traffic from PC to Internet Cloud will follow 3 protocols.

    1. PC to CPE: Traffic will flow in the form of Ethernet packets through

LAN cable or USB cable or Wifi wireless between CPE and PC/Laptop.

    2. CPE to DSLAM: Traffic will flow in the form of ATM packets through

cupper wire. The ATM frequency range is 0 to 2.2 Mhz. The different

services have different pvc which identified by VPI and VCI numbers.

    E.g Internet VPI-0 and VCI-35 and For IPTV VPI-0 and VCI-100.

    3. DSLAM to BRAS/BNG: Traffic will flow in the form of Ethernet

packets through VLAN set up between customer DSLAM port and

    BRAS/BNG virtual node.

    Multiplay Broadband

Multiplay Broadband provides voice, data and streaming

    video services.

Maximum download speed can go up to 24 Mbps.

On demand services like Audio on Demand (AoD),Games

on Demand (GoD), Video on Demand (VoD), Video

Conferencing, IPTV etc. can be easily planned through

    Multiplay Broadband.
