tHE BrIStOL aLLIanCE LOGO

The official logo of the Bristol Alliance of CompaniestM (Bristol) is a core element in Bristol’s branding and visual identity. It should be present on every item produced for Bristol and its suite of services.

Bristol is an alliance of companies offering diversified lines of service, including engineering, construction, environmental remediation, fuel systems, and range and UXO services. Our marketing focuses on Bristol and its service lines, not individual companies.

BrIStOL COMPanY LOGOSWhen and where can I use my company logo?

Occasionally, it is necessary to use the logos of the individual companies (examples include proposals and legal documents). In situations like this, it is appropriate to use the logo(s) of individual Alliance companies. Please direct any questions regarding the brand standards and logo use to Bristol Creative Services at (907)793-9325 (Amy Hastings), #CreativeServices or [email protected].

ACCEPTABLE LOGO USESize

All logos (both Alliance and individual companies) should be a minimum of 2 inches wide and should be large enough to keep all text at a readable size.

There are no limitations to how large the logos can be used on materials. Placement

There are no limitations to placement of the Alliance logo in a design. However, the “Bristol” in the logo has to be visibly larger than any text below the logo.

The Alliance logo should fit nicely into the overall layout of the marketing piece.

The Alliance logo should be used on all Bristol materials.

“Free space” should be observed at all times around all logos. This space is equal to the height of the black graphic bar in the Bristol Alliance logo at any given size (Example A). When using a company logo, this space is equal to the height of the icon box adjacent to the capability line (Example B). Using these standards, proper clear space can be assured.

Text should always be set outside the “free space” for both Alliance and company logos. Images may print up to the outside edge of the free space, but should never be placed behind the logos; instead, use a rounded white or 20-percent grey box around the logo (Example C) – this white box will allow for the appropriate free space. If you must have a color behind the logo other than grey, use all black or white logos (Example D). A rounded white or 20-percent grey box should always be used when the Full Color Bristol Alliance logo is presented on a colored or photo background (Example E). A rounded white or 20-percent grey box should also be used behind individual company logos when presented on a dark background or photo background (for example, proposal covers).Outside use of logos

Do not permit other companies or individuals to use our logos without approval. Approval is obtained from Bristol’s Creative Services Department. Contact us at (907) 793-9325, #CreativeServices or [email protected]. Modifications

There is only one effect allowed with any of the logos: drop shadow. A conservative drop shadow in 40-percent black or lower behind a white-boxed Bristol logo is allowed (Example F).Consistent use

The Bristol logo is used on all materials associated with the company. As a graphic element

The logo cannot be cropped off a page. Digital media

The logo must be visible and adhere to all guidelines. It cannot be distorted (pixelated, skewed) in any way. Please use official RGB versions. If you need logos for online media or need to provide the official RGB colors, see page 8.Web address usage

Bristol’s URL address should be included in the body of printed material as www.bristol-companies.com.

Example F.

• Do not decorate or embellish the logo.

• Do not stretch or shorten the logo in any way. Contact Creative Services for assistance with logo resizing. We are happy to help.

• Do not crowd the logo with a logo from another company. When another company is being represented along with Bristol, the two logos should be displayed separately, observing the proper free space.

• Do not use a reversed-out full color logo.

Instead: use the all black or white version:

• Do not alter the position of any of the elements.

• Do not retype or recreate a typeface for any part of the logo.

• Do not use the logo in any orientation other than horizontal (our business cards and other documents produced by Creative Services are an excep-tion).

• Do not use the logo as part of text. Instead write the name “Bristol.”

Bristol Brand Standards - The Technical Stuff

FILE FORMATS - Where and When to use

• Microsoft programs, online usage and as needed printed materials: Full Color (CMYK) JPG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)

The CMYK JPG files are also high-quality enough for print, but JPG files should never be converted and re-saved because they lose quality each time they are saved.

• PowerPoint and online usage: (RGB) GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) or PNG (Portable Network Graphics)

For digital presentations and other electronic uses, use the GIF file (RGB). All GIF files are transparent and have a resolution of 150 pixels per inch. DO NOT use the RGB file for any documents that will be printed. If you are planning on printing out your PowerPoint, then JPG or PNG files will produce a higher print quality.

• All professionally printed materials: Full Color (CMYK) TIF (Tagged Image File Format) and EPS Encapsulated PostScript

For full color documents that will be printed at a professional print shop, use the Full Color (CMYK) TIF (.tif) or EPS (.eps) file. All TIF files have a resolution of 300 dots per inch and can be resized up to 6 inches by 4 inches, if needed. For banners, large signs, etc., please see "Special Use," below.

COLOr

In most cases, when printing the full color Bristol Alliance of Companies logo, or full color company logos, you will want to use the full color version (see below).

Logo colors will vary slightly, depending on whether they are printed using spot color (Pantone PMS) or process color (CMYK). RGB is for materials that will be viewed on a computer screen (website and PowerPoint).

Refer to the color charts on pages 6 and 8 for the Bristol Alliance and individual company brand colors. Our logos are available in CMYK, RGB, Pantone PMS colors, and both black and white versions. No other colors may be used to represent the Bristol brand or companies. Full Color versions (CMYK) should always be used when possible. However, if Full Color cannot be used, please use the alternative Bristol logos made for 1-color use (black logo or white logo) (Example D, or see page 2).

For special situations in which a very simple B&W logo is needed (example: newspaper ad), please contact Creative Services at (907) 793-9325, #CreativeServices or [email protected]. We can send you the appropriate file.Full Color

For documents printed on an office printer, use a JPG (CMYK) for full color files.

For documents being sent to a professional print shop, use the full color (CMYK) TIF(.tif) file. Special Use

For documents printed using Pantone colors or "PMS" printing at a print shop (such as most business cards), use the “Special Use” logos, or contact Creative Services. We have special use logos that were designed to allow printing with Pantone colors. These are a more expensive ink option for print, but the color quality is always consistent.

For large-format, signage, or other special needs, ask the printer if spot (Pantone) or process (CMYK) color is needed, and provide the appropriate EPS file. All EPS files provided on this page are saved with fonts converted to outlines. Contact Creative Services at (907) 793-9325, #CreativeServices or [email protected] with any questions regarding logos or logo usage.

Special Color Information

Please note that when printing the full color Bristol Alliance of Companies logo, or full color company logos, you will want to use the full color version of the logo(s).

Logo colors will vary slightly, depending on whether they are printed using spot color (Pantone PMS) or process (CMYK) color. RGB is for computer screen material (website and PowerPoint).Paper Choice Can Affect Color

The official Bristol Construction Services yellow is 123C for coated paper/121U for uncoated paper. If using uncoated paper, 121U must be used to avoid an “orangey” look. The default spot color used with our PMS file is 123C, but be aware that it must be changed to 121U to get the right color if you are using uncoated paper. (“Uncoated” is a printing term, and most papers are coated in some way, so please check.) Our CMYK formula is specially chosen to retain the correct coloration on any paper. (Contact Creative Services for assistance, or pass this information onto your printer.)

Bristol has designated the following fonts for brand identity in word documents, PowerPoints, etc., unless required to do otherwise (as with some proposals):

• Times New Roman for headline fonts

• Arial for body and subheader fonts.

These include the entire font families.

Bristol documents are designed for maximum readability. To help achieve this, do not be afraid of white (clear) space. Sufficient white space allows important text to stand out.Type Style: Size/Contrast/Emphasis

As a general rule, the smallest type size for body copy of a printed piece is 10 point. Please note that specific uses, such as some job proposals, require specific font sizes.

A hierarchy of text size is a useful tool in the creation of layouts, creating contrast, improving readability, and contributing to the look and feel of the piece.

Text color is restricted to either black or colors from the color palette (see page 8). There must be a good contrast between text and background color. Dark type on a white or light background is the most visually readable. White type

Page 7: Bristol Alliance of Companies Brand Guidelines · • Do not crowd the logo with a logo from another company. When another company is being represented along with Bristol, the two

7Bristol Brand Standards

should only be used on very dark backgrounds, such as black or the dark Bristol grey (Pantone Cool Gray 11C or c0 m10 y0 k80).

Text can be right-justified, left-justified, and centered depending on the layout. Never full-justify text.

Bold fonts are used for emphasis to make certain words and phrases stand out from surrounding text. Bold fonts can be used for headlines to increase the contrast between headlines and body text. Bolding a "call to action," the action you wish the reader to take, also draws attention to the instruction.

Italics create subtle emphasis and set apart certain names and titles. Italic fonts can also be used to add creative contrast, such as for pull-quotes or initial caps.

Use only one style at a time—do not bold and italicize text.

Number of fonts per piece—maximum three, including the entire font family. Avoid using too many fonts.

EMBrOIdErY

When embroidering Bristol logos, no text should be sewn smaller than a 1/4-inch tall. When selecting thread colors, refer to the Robison Anton Color Card No 122.SR-8 and the colors below, which correspond to the Bristol Companies’ PMS colors. “Less is more” is an excellent rule to follow when producing any type of communication. Studies have shown that people are more likely to pay attention to and retain information when it is clear, simple and has a singular focus.

Limit the number and sizes of typefaces you use. Generally, you should not use more than three different typefaces in one piece.

Decide on one single message that you want to convey—don’t clutter or confuse your piece.

Keep visual elements—pictures or graphics—to a minimum.

Don’t be afraid of a little white space. Clear space draws attention to the publication.

little reminders:

Keep it simple No more than three typefaces One single message
