A smarter way to nominate for future meets
Computer users will welcome the option of entering meets online as an alternative to sending paper entry forms to
the Club Recorder. This will bring BSM one step along the way to what is required practice in other clubs. I will
continue to manage both methods of entry. The first step is to register a user name and password with MSQ as
outlined below.
The online alternative provides a convenient and easy-to-use system of entering meets using Entry Manager, which is
located in the Masters Swimming Queensland (MSQ) website.
This online method of entry has a number of benefits:
You can enter meets up until the host club’s entry deadline date
You can make changes to your events and times without needing to contact the club recorder
The system automatically aligns the event number with the events
You can quickly check that you have entered the meet successfully
You can forward plan and enter meets further into the year
You can nominate your interest to swim in relays for particular meets
Meals can be also ordered at the time of nomination
This method of entry is optional. I will continue to send Meet Information reminders, Meet Flyers and BSM entry
forms as currently done. However, it would be great to see members who feel comfortable, adopt this new method.
For members who are keen to self-nominate, an instructional video on how to create an account can be found by
using the link below. Exploring the MSQ website is worthwhile.

This link takes you to the forum page, where you can create an account and get started for the upcoming meets:

What will stay the same?
Emailed Meet Information, Meet flyers and BSM nomination forms will continue. You can continue to use the
current system if you’d prefer at this stage.
The method of payment to the BSM account
Relays will be formed manually and swimmers notified prior to the meet
Members who would like to change but would like assistance with the process, please feel free to contact me for
help.

PRESIDENT’S PEN
Our Christmas and End-of-Year function celebrated a number of things about our Club and it was nice to see everyone fully dressed and having a good time. Our Annual Awards went to Michael Hill for Club Person of the Year (The Alan Robinson Memorial Trophy) and to Elaine Sng and Graeme Albion for Coach’s Award 2015. Our major thanks went to Susan Apps for organising and running the event. Our Club Management Committee met on 23 November and started the early planning for our 2016 BSM Meet at Chandler. We also discussed the 2016 schedule of Queensland Meets and how to maximise our attendance at these. David Haley and Manny Panaretos have taken on the job of rounding up club records stored off-site and working out a solution. With David involved, the solution will likely be electronic archiving while maintaining an accurate record of the club’s history. Early next year you can expect to receive a simple BSM Membership card with confirmation of your Registration and Masters number. From Sleeman, we will all receive a swipe card that identifies each of us as BSMers at Reception for OHS and statistical reasons only. Payment arrangements will remain unchanged.
Entering Meets will become more streamlined and immediate for those who choose the online method explained by Peter Gibson above. I encourage you to take the plunge and at least get to register your user name (eg LawrieBaker) and a password with MSQ at http://forum.mastersswimmingqld.org.au/forum. I hope your swimming effort throughout the year has been rewarded and that you continue to enjoy our Club. I do hope the Christmas season is enjoyable for you. Merry Christmas and thanks for your support during the Year.
Lawrie Baker, BSM President
CRASH CORNER
Elaine is mending very well after her knee surgery.
Although Elaine is on crutches, with lots of rest, reading and
TV, we look forward to seeing her back in the water soon.
We hear that ‘Nurse Baz’ is doing a great job!
Narelle visited Max Gillespie last week and although he has
slowed somewhat, he still has that cheeky glint in his eye.
We miss Max around the smoko table, along with his
tremendous knowledge of our club’s history.
Lisa is in her new digs and is “happily” unpacking all those
boxes. We all wish you well Lisa in the next part of your
very brave journey.

Stuart is now over his recent surgery, but will be out of the
water for a little while yet. We will miss his smiling face on
the pool deck, and of course it won’t be the same without
the ‘little green beany’! See you soon in the lanes Stuart.

TUESDAY SMOKO
The Tuesday Family enjoying that Birthday Fare
The “Happy Birthdays “ were heard all over Sleeman when
the Tuesday Smoko sang to all the November-Borns.
Thanks Tricia for the wonderful Lemon Cake, and Helen for
the beautiful little Butterfly Cakes. BSM is gaining quite a
reputation for its coffee and cake following another
wonderful session by Michael.
THE BSM DUCK YODELS IN GENEVA
The duck went to Geneva last week with Liz Brett (Carol and
Bob’s daughter). It had a very important role to play in the
International University Sports Federation, extolling the
virtues of “Masters Swimmers”. Sadly the duck put on a bit
of weight after over-indulging on those Swiss Chocolates, but
promises to drop the kilos after some serious sessions in the
pond – oops the pool!
SUSAN CROSS
Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Susan and her family on
the passing of her Grandfather. We will all be thinking of
you at this sad time Susan, and look forward to seeing you
back in the lanes soon.
2015 REDLANDS BAYSIDE MASTERS
WORLDWIDE POSTAL SWIM MEET
Grateful thanks to those willing members who gave their
time generously, to time the swims for Cathy and Helen for
the above event in September.
They each completed 5 swims ranging from 50m to 1500m
in a variety of strokes and enjoyed the experience.
Certificates of Participation were sent in the mail and
resulted in Cathy gaining 5 x First places and Helen 3 x Firsts
and 2 x Seconds.
Hopefully more members will attempt postal events in the
future to boost the BSM image.

AQUALICIOUS SWIM MEET
SATURDAY 28 NOVEMBER 2015
They did it again – those cheeky Aqualicious Boys and Girls.
They managed another fun-filled swim meet which included
some serious distance events and relays, but also saw
swimmers attempting to navigate 50m with a noodle and a
beach ball before handing it over to their fellow relay mate.
After lots of advice on “how to manage this feat” Ira, one of
our newest BSMers came up with the solution – place the
noodle between your legs, allow it to come up over your
head, and imagine you are in the water polo team motoring
along with the beach ball between your arms.

Bob passes the baton (noodle and ball) to Jac
Helen was the Official Starter for the meet and was pleased
that none of her hair was singed from the fierce cap gun.
Top job Helen! Graeme, Jac, Ira and Cathy brought their
very own cheer squads, while Michelle, Tom, Brad and Paul
had to make do with Carol who is still trying to figure out a
way of knowing which twin – Tom or Brad – is in the lane.
Bob and Lawrie talked pool fencing while waiting for their
races to come up, and managed not to miss one event!
BSM BREAKY BREAKUP
SUNDAY 29 NOVEMBER 2015
Over 50 hungry BSMers devoured their breakies at the Manly
Yacht Club, managing to talk and eat at the same time. They
muched, they moved and they laughed, all while watching
the boats sail by on beautiful Moreton Bay.
The BSM Family enjoys breaky
Charlie knows Tom from Brad. Twins don’t fool him!
Peter says I’m hungry!
Sue, our Social Director made the morning a wonderful
success with Christmassy decorations on the tables, gifts for
one and all, lucky seat prizes and vouchers for a “coffee on
the club”.
Social Director Sue Apps and Pres Lawrie Baker
Melea was seen crawling around under the chairs, but
assured us it was part of the lucky seat preparation.
Yes that was my Mummy Melea crawling under the chairs says Jarvis
Jen won the lucky seat prize, and Brian thought he’d help to eat the
chocolates

Lawrie made the main Award presentation – “Club Person of the Year” – to Michael Hill who took on the role of Tuesday Coach
when Janine stepped down because of study commitments. Michael was delighted to receive the Alan Robinson Memorial
Trophy crafted by Bob Brett, and also to receive his very own Hoodie from BSM as a token of our great appreciation for his
thoughtful and inspiring coaching.
Lawrie presents Michael with Club Person of the Year Trophy Coach Janine presents Elaine with her award
Janine presented her award for Most Improved Female Swimmer to Elaine Sng, and to Graeme Albion for the Most Improved
Male Swimmer. Both of these awards were popular choices and represented the exceptional examples that both Graham and
Elaine set for us all.
Sue Apps took the opportunity to announce the ‘teams’ for the Sausage Sizzle on 20 December, and to gain some new volunteers
for the day. Thanks go to you Sue, for the organisation of this very important fund raiser, and thanks to those who will keep
those little bangers coming on the day.
