From the Start

When beginning to think about a specific direction to progress toward in the creation of a typeface, I began looking at the structures of Didot and Bodoni. I was already very interested in the beautiful contrast of the strokes within the two typefaces. My focus generated around a younger audience, possibly the followers of teen vogue. Didot became my framework, as I created a curvilinear

movement within the development of my typeface process. As I attempted to approach the appeal of a younger group of admirers, I began to see the visual appeal toward a 1920s typeface. While researching the formation of the fashion maagazine, Vogue, I became very interested in the Parisian editions, as well as the photography taken within Paris. Bringing my attention to

the famous fashion photographer, Cecil Beaton, and focusing on the appeaI of one of the world’s most chic and sophisticated fashion magazines, I developed the typeface of Beaton. This delightful typeface describes the mood of the 1920s exploratory fashion trends, as well as expressing the decade’s statement to raise the ladies’ hemlines, and bring the style of the plunging neckline.
