Guilt is NOT 1st & primarily a feeling
Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.

Biblically Informed Conscience
Rigid, Cruel Uninformed Conscience
Unexersized Conscience
Calloused Conscience
1) Defines an objective standard, i.e. the mountain (major premise)
2) Measures oneself against that standard, i.e. the flight-path (minor premise)
3) Conclude if the standard was kept or violated. (i.e. we’re on collision-course and therefore “guilty” before God)
(i.e. we’re not on collision-course and therefore “not guilty before God)

Godly vs. Worldly Sorrow he [Titus] told us of your longing, your mourning, your zeal for
me, so that I rejoiced still more. 8For even if I made you grieve with my letter, I do not regret it—though I did regret it, for I see that that letter grieved you, though only for a while. 9As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us. 10For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. 11For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter. (2 Cor.7:7-11)

Man’s Way - Ignore
Ignoring a state of guilt is dangerous – A BLINDFOLD WON’T STOP A GUILLOTINE
Ignoring emotions is folly.

Man’s Way- False Guilt
a “feeling-oriented” and man-centered belief-system. “rejecting feelings” is dangerous; fails to judge by God’s standard & must be repented of. Technically, “false guilt” describes false value-systems and false or inaccurate comparisons of morality [personal actions] and ethics [standards of behavior which are NOT biblical]. Matt. 4:4 [Deut. 4:2 (see also Prov. 30:6; Gal. 3:15; Rev. 22:18-19) 2 Cor. 7:10b …

Man’s Way- Forgive Self
• not taught in the Bible • Inability or unwillingness to grasp and accept forgiveness • fails to see God’s righteousness and the sinfulness of sin (the ONLY hope for forgiveness is the judicial granting of forgiveness from God. (1 Jn.1:9) • Fails to see the power of the Blood • Fails to take thoughts captive 2 Cor. 10:3-4 • Fails to acknowledge the depth of one’s sin-nature • Prideful “I can’t accept that I was that bad”
