bills of exchange of Rs. 5,000, Rs.6,000 and Rs.7,000 payable after two, three and four

months respectively. He accepted the bills and returned them to Riya. Riya discounts the

first bill @ 6% p.a. with her banker. On 5th August, she endorsed the second bill to her

creditor Mr. Raina in settlement of Rs. 6,200. On 25th November Riya sends the third bill

to the banker for collection. On the due date the bank deposits the money in Riya’s

account after deducting charges of Rs 50.

Mr. Satpal is an accountant in a company. He passed a dummy entry without transaction

proof in order to match the trial balance of the company. He did not tell this to his boss.

Karuna sold goods worth Rs.40,000 to Vandana on Jan.1, 2014. On the same date

accepted a 3 months bill drawn by Karuna for the same amount. On Jan.4, Karuna

discounted the bill with her bank @18% p.a. At the maturity, the bill was dishonored and

the bank paid Rs.100 as noting charges. Vandana paid Rs.10,000 in cash and accepted a

new bill for the balance at 3 months along with interest of Rs.250. The renewed bill was

met on due date. Pass necessary journal entries in the books of Karuna.

Q.16 A company whose accounting year is the calendar year, purchases on 1st April 2010

machinery costing Rs.3,00,000. It purchased further machinery on 1st Jan 2011 costing

Rs.2,00,000. On 1st October 2012 one third of the machinery installed on the 1st April

2010 became obsolete and was sold for Rs.30,000. On the same day it purchased another

machinery for Rs.1,00,000. Show how Machinery A/c and Provision for Depreciation

A/c would appear in the books of the company for the years 2010, 2011 and 2012. It

being given that machinery was depreciated under Fixed Installment Method @ 10%

p.a..

OR

Raj and Company purchased a machinery costing Rs.2,00,000 on April 1, 2009. It further

purchased machineries on 1st October 2009 for Rs.1,00,000 and on 1st July 2010 for

Rs.50,000. On 1st April 2011 half of the machinery installed on 1st April 2009 became

obsolete and was sold for Rs.30,000. Show Machinery A/c for 2009, 2010 & 2011 when the

The reading of novels is the most popular pastime of a large number of people. The attraction of novel lies in its ability to create interest, to sustain it and take the reader to the heights of imagination and luxurious fiction. All fictions are somewhat connected with life and give in words the pictures drawn from real life or from imagination. As such all forms of literature, novels are the most popular and interesting. They portray pen pictures from our real life and society and present the character of the people we see around or wish to see. A novel inspires the interest and intention of a reader because in it, scenes rapidly shift and change and there are unexpected turns of events giving shocks and shakes to the mind.

Next we come to the books of travel and adventure. The spirit of adventure is in the very blood of man. A man wants glamour and romantic life, full of adventure and the material spirit. “To the week, problems are stumbling blocks, to the brave, they are stepping stones.” An untimely resignation and or termination letter is certainly traumatic and disturbing. But think of possibilities it can throw open for you. A young man felt disappointed when he failed in an interview for a corporate job. At that point of time he felt dejected. Today looking back he says, “It was a blessing in disguise I would have never reached this far.” Some mistakes bring in very important messages. Believe and achieve! And in order to do so, faith is essential. It is the triple faith that men need today – faith in oneself, faith in the world around us, and above all faith in God!

marks, one question of 3 marks and all the three questions of 5 marks. (iii) Question numbers 1 to 5 are very short answer type questions carrying 1 mark each. (iv) Question numbers 6 to 10 are short answer type questions carrying 2 marks each. (v) Question numbers 11 to 22 are short answer type questions carrying 3 marks each. (vi) Question number 23 is a value based question carrying 4 marks. (vii) Question numbers 24 to 26 are long answer type questions carrying 5 marks each. (viii) Use of calculator is not permitted. However you may use log table, if necessary.

1. What is the time period of oscillation of a simple pendulum mounted in a cabin that is freely falling under gravity?

2. A railway carriage of mass 10000kg moving with a speed 15ms-1 hits a stationary carriage of same mass. After the collision the carriages get coupled and move together. What is their common velocity after collision?

3. Oxygen and hydrogen gas are at the same temperature T. What is the ratio of kinetic energies of oxygen molecule and hydrogen molecule if oxygen is 16 times heavier than hydrogen?

4. A bucket containing water is tied to one end of a rope 1m long and rotated about the other end in a vertical circle. What is the minimum velocity at the lowest point so that the water may not spill?

5. State Wien’s displacement law.

6. Explain how will you determine the size of an oleic acid molecule.

7. Draw the velocity- time graph and acceleration –time graph for freefall.

A car travelling at 20m/s takes a U turn in 10s. What is the acceleration of the car?

8.Define gravitational potential energy. Find the gravitational potential energy of a system of four particles each of mass m placed at the vertices of a square of side a.

9. A piece of copper having rectangular cross section 15mm x 19mm is pulled by a force of 44500N producing elastic deformation. Calculate the resulting strain. Shear modulus of copper is 42 x 109.

10. State and prove law of conservation of linear momentum.

11. Define centre of mass. Two balls of masses 3m and m are separated by a distance L. Find the position of the centre of mass.


12. What is a geostationary satellite? Mention two essential conditions for geostationary satellites.

13. Explain why: (a) It is easier to pull a lawn mower than to push it. (b) A cricketer moves his hands backwards while holding a catch.

14. Draw the figure showing all the forces and obtain an expression for maximum velocity of vehicle on a circular banked road.

15. State the law of equipartition of energy. Obtain the specific heats at constant volume and pressure of a monoatomic gas.

16. Define relative velocity. Rain is falling vertically with a speed of 30ms-1. A woman rides a bicycle with a speed of 10ms-1 in west to east direction. What is the direction in which she should hold her umbrella?

17.The centripetal force F acting on a body moving uniformly in a circle may depend upon its mass m velocity v and radius r of the circle. Derive the formula for centripetal force using the method of dimension.

18. Explain Doppler effect in sound. Obtain an expression for apparent frequency of sound when the source is moving towards a stationary listener.

19. State and prove Bernoulli’s principle.

State Pascal’s law. Explain the working of hydraulic lift.

20. The equation for a travelling wave in x- direction is, y = 0.07 sin (80x-3t) where x, y and t are in SI units. Calculate the frequency, velocity and wavelength of the wave.

21.State the theorem of parallel axes of moment of inertia. Using the theorem find the moment of inertia of a solid sphere of mass M and radius R about its tangent.

22. Show that the motion of simple pendulum is simple harmonic and obtain its time period.

23. Suraj went to a shopping mall to purchase certain goods. There he noticed an old lady struggling to carry her goods to the ground floor. Immediately he showed her the lift and explained to her how it carries the load from one floor to the next. Then he took her to the lift and showed her how to operate it. The old lady was very happy. (a) What values does Suraj possess? (b) An elevator can carry a maximum load of 1800kg is moving up with a constant speed 2ms-1. The frictional force opposing motion is 4000N. Determine the minimum power delivered by the motor to the elevator.

24. Define surface tension. Obtain an expression for excess pressure inside a liquid bubble. What happens to the surface tension of a liquid when temperature is increased?

24. What do you mean by terminal velocity? Obtain the terminal velocity of a sphere of radius r and density ρ falling through a liquid of density ρ’ and co efficient of viscosity ɳ. What is the acceleration of a body falling through a viscous medium after terminal velocity is attained?

25. State Clausius statement of second law of thermodynamics. Draw the block diagram and explain the working of a refrigerator. Obtain an expression for its co-efficient of performance in terms of temperatures of source (T1) and sink (T2) .

OR

25. State Kelvin –Planck statement of second law of thermodynamics. Draw the block diagram and explain the working of a heat engine. Obtain an expression for its efficiency in terms of heat absorbed from source Q1 and heat rejected to the sink Q2.

26. A projectile is thrown from ground with a velocity u at an angle ϴ with the horizontal. Obtain the expression for maximum height and horizontal range of the projectile. Find the angle of projection at which the horizontal range and maximum height of the projectile are equal.

OR

26. What do you mean by uniform circular motion? Derive an expression for acceleration of an object in uniform circular motion. A stone tied to the end of a string 0.8m long is whirled in a horizontal circle with a constant speed. If the stone makes 14 revolutions in 25 seconds, what is the acceleration of the stone?
