FOREWORD

District Industrial Potential Report of Karauli -Rajasthan is prepared by

this institute under its action plan target for the year 2015-16. The

information on material resources, Administrative set up, details about

PSUs, Clusters situated in the district, potential for new MSMEs are

embedded in this document. The Objective of this report is to expose

the resource base, studying industrial scenario of the district, for the

benefits of all budding/existing entrepreneurs.

I commend the efforts of Sh. Sushil Kumar AD(IMT) in preparing this

District Profile. The District profile has been prepared on the

information gathered from various Govt. departments and secondary

data supplied by them. I extend my thanks to all those departments

for their useful contribution in bringing out this document.

Brief Industrial Profile of Karauli District

1. General Characteristics of the District

The foundation of Karauli was laid by the Kings of Yaduvanshi comprising

Gangapur and Hindaun Nizamats of Karauli and Jaipur States. In the month of April

1949, Karauli was inducted in Matsaya Union and at the later stage it was included in

Jaipur State and was made a part of the state of Rajasthan on 1.3.1997. Karauli was

formed as a new separate district comprising of five Tehsils of Sawai Madhopur

district on 19th July 1997.

1.1 Location & Geographical Area

The District lies between 26° 3’ - 49° north latitude and 76° 35' and 77° 26’

east longitude and 260 metres altitude. It is bounded on north-west by Dausa, South

west by Sawaimadhopur, east by Dholpur and west north by Bharatpur, Karauli district

is at the height of 400 - 600 meters from sea level. The total geographical area of

district is 5069.64 Sq. kms and population is 14,58,248 as per census of 2011. The

main river of the state Chambal separates the district from Madhya Pradesh.

1.2 Topography

Karauli is famous for its geographical specialities and having full of natural beauty

and covered by Vindhyanchal and Aravali mountains. District is having all sorts of

plain, high & low and hilly parts. Plains are very fertile and clay is very light in weight

and sandy. There are many local rivers in the district. Annual rain fall is 668.86 mm.

about 35 days in a year. Maximum temperature is 49° Celsius in the month of May and

2° Celsius in the month of January.

The forest cover an area of 172646 hectare in 2013-14 which is about 32% of

total geographical area of the district 504301 hectares..

As per the records of 2011-12 total 895-2 m.m. rain fall was recorded against

565 mm. average rain fall.

1.5 Administrative set up.

Karauli city is the headquarter of Karauli district which is comprised into 6

Tehsils, 6 sub Division, 223 Panchayats, 881 villages, 5 Panchayat Samiti and 3

Nagarpalika.
