1. Brief Description General SBR-small Wastewater Treatment Plant (KKA) SOLIDO consists of highly resistant

polyethylene plastic containers and work with the Sequencing Batch Reactor Process. It is available in several versions for 2 – 40 inhabitants. Approvals General technical approval from the German Institute for Civil Engineering (DIBt) for the effluent classes C, N and D. Cleaning category SOLIDO conforms to the cleaning category C, N and D (Carbon and Nitrogen degradation as well as additional denitrification) and can keep the following requirements: BOD5: ≤ 20 mg/l from a grab sample, homogenised COD: ≤ 90 mg/l from a grab sample, homogenised NH4-N: ≤ 10 mg/l from a 24 h composite sample, filtrated Nanorg: ≤ 25 mg/l from a 24 h composite sample, filtrated Manufacturing SOLIDO is manufactured as a one-container plant with a separating wall or as a more-container plant. The containers are industrially made of highly resistant polyethylene (LLD-PE) in the rotation sintering process. Manufacturing enterprise is the ROTA GmbH, Am Gammgraben 2, D-19258 Boizenburg. Warranty 25 years manufacturer’s warranty for containers, 3 years manufacturer’s warranty for electrical units such as aerator, pumps and control with the correct operation and maintenance by a service partner authorised by REWATEC. . Mode of operation SOLIDO always has at least two separated chambers. The first acts as a sludge reservoir and buffer, in the second chamber the cleaning process takes place. The SBR-system SOLIDO provides the oxygen supply of the microorganisms via a compressor and pipe shaped aerator. These microorganisms transform the contents of the wastewater into settleable activated sludge. The emerging excess sludge is pumped into the first chamber, during the treatment. The treatment takes place in batches, each cycle lasts 6 hours and is controlled by a programmable electronic control unit. The control unit allows to adapt the running operation times when the local conditions vary. The patented construction of the air lifters enables the system to do an automatic backflush before every start. A sludge loss or blocking of the charging lifter are avoided. Energy consumption The SBR-system SOLIDO has a compressor with an electrical power from 46 to 210 Watt (depending on the size of the plant), three solenoid valves, one control unit, as well an optional float switch (SOLIDO Sensor). Because of the efficient utilisation of the compressed air the energy consumption according to the desired decomposition rate and actual utilization is about 50 kWh per inhabitant and year for the effluent class C. This average cost is 13,50 € per person/ year (with an electricity tariff of 0.27 €/kWh).

Holiday mode The control offers the possibility to enter the length of a holiday / absence for up to 30 days (savings mode). At the end of the entered time the control automatically returns again to the standard mode. Energy saving mode (at version SOLIDO Sensor with float switch) If no wastewater inflow takes place for a longer period, the aeration time is reduced automatically. With this energy saving mode, the microorganisms are kept alive even during holidays, and at the same time energy is saved. Maintenance and Sampling According to German Institute for Civil Engineering (DIBt) approval the SOLIDO plant has to be maintained twice a year. Within the maintenance the time of the sludge removal from the first chamber is fixed. This has to be carried out every 6-24 month, depending on the utilisation and the type series. The sampling is carried out by removing the content of the sample bottle. It is changed during the clearwater removal every 6 hours, so that a current sample is available any time. Installation notes The containers have to be installed in a sharp object free, shock-free trench, whose base has to be well compressed and level. For the installation, half fill the containers with water, coat them with proper material from all sides, with a thickness of 30-50 cm and compact it in layers. The filling material has to be well compressible, permeable, shearing resistant and free from sharp objects (e.g. gravel sand with wide staged granulation). Concrete is not necessary. The installation is possible in a depth of ground- and surface water of 1.00 m under ground, when the necessary height above ground is considered. The SBR-aggregate SOLIDO has to be connected by a plug-in cable (15 m or 30 m length) to the plant control. A duct pipe (DN70 – DN100) should be installed for this purpose. The control unit has to be plugged into a socket with a separately secured ground fault circuit interrupter (30mA), with a working PE-conductor. Further information for the installation can be found in the installation guidelines for MONOLITH containers I and II. There is also information about the installation of drivable versions resp. the installation at high ground water levels (buoyancy protection, welding of shaft elements, rubber seals, etc.). Operator’s duties Among the general duty of care such as the avoidance of the discharge of inappropriate substances, like chemicals resp. contraries of all kinds, the operator has to make sure that the plant is operating correctly. Visual inspections have to be carried out monthly and have to be noted in the operations logbook. The operating times of the plant are automatically saved in the operations logbook of the control unit. A written logbook is recommended and required by the water authorities!

Approval A precondition for the operation of a small Wastewater Treatment Plant is obtaining the correct approvals from your local water authority and an acceptance / startup by a specialised company.

NOTES: MONOLITH II containers have a inspection shaft DN 600-800 and a shaft DN 200 for desludging, that is scope of delivery with a height of 620 mm. Extensions DN 200 or drivable covers must be applied onsite. The inspection shaft plants can be shortened in the standard version up to 12 PE to about max. 14 cm! With lower installation depths an alternative siting of the technical capsule can be achieved e.g. in a separate capsule shaft. All given measurements with range of variation show the possible installation depth given by telescopic pushing of the respective shaft elements.
