BriefPart 1 - Design a book to enter into the NOPX international artist’s books competition. The book will be exhibited at the AC gallery in Berlin, Germany and Turin, Italy. The aim of the competition is to encourage research into the field of artist’s books, and promote participating artists and designers.

Part 2 - Design a range of merchandise to be sold alongside the book in the gallery.

ConceptThe concept for the book is a short guide to Sputnik 1. This brief also includes a range of different products that use the Space Race from the 1960’s as a theme.

How to Make Sputnik 1The Sputnik 1 guide cover can be removed and a Sputnik 1 model can be created. Instructions are provided inside the book sleeve alongside the red cord needed for hanging the model. The images show the process to create the model in steps. The first step shows how to cut the model out. The second step shows how to attach the cord needed to hang the model and the third shows the model hanging.

ProductThe Lunar Lander poster develops out of the concept for the Sputnik booklet. The Lunar Lander can be cut out and hung, the poster also explains the lander. The lower half of the Lunar Lander is screenprinted gold in the original posters.
