Community Colleges generally provide two years of study in various disciplines, that lead to an Associate’s (AA or AS) Degree.

Often used to aid in the transition from high school to college/university.

Students often transfer to a university to complete a BA or BS degree.

Page 8: Bridge power point mona

If students are not happy at their selected place of study, or if they prefer an alternative academic program, they can transfer from one educational institution to another.

Students who seek to transfer must go through a complete admissions process at the new college or university.

If students have finished a two-year diploma, they may be accepted for the third year at the university.

A-level and IB students may have the advantage of possibly receiving university transfer credits

All international students must show English proficiency through TOEFL or IELTS tests. TOEFL is most common. Acceptable scores for undergraduate admissions range from 61 – 80, depending on the university. IELTS scores range from 5.5 to 6.0.

Students who completed O-Level English with a C grade may be accepted without TOEFL/IELTS.

IB students who completed English Higher or Standard Level may be exempted from taking TOEFL/IELTS.

Page 26: Bridge power point mona

This provides assurance that once a student has met the college or university’s English language requirement, s/he will be allowed to begin an academic course of work. Sometimes, TOEFL tests are not required for conditional acceptance.
