RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Avion Technical Services Limited March 2004 – present - Consultant
Working across a broad range of areas on several projects including Design Coordination on major projects and the development and delivery of training packages to the Gas Industry on safety and technical issues. Development and delivery of NVQ4 assessment programmes, business presentation material, production of Industry/Schools
training links packages, provision of technical workshops for schools, and continuing my involvement with pipeline design through feasibility studies and project coordination roles.
Haswell Consulting Engineers Apr 2000 – March 2004 - Gas Group Manager
Following previous success was invited to lead the fledgling Gas Group that grew to £1m turnover. This was another opportunity to demonstrate my ability to develop a successful team of professional Engineers and
Managers who delivered major Gas Pipeline projects for Transco and other clients. Also developed a role looking after graduate and apprentice training, mentoring and schools liaison and was a runner up in the 2003 National Gas
Industry Training Awards for my personal contribution to training in the industry. One of my graduates won the award in 2004.
Gas300 Ltd. Jun 1996 – May 2000 - Managing Director
This was a highly demanding role in which I took a Greenfield company to a £1m pa turnover in two years and gained a position as a recognized UK design house for high integrity design and project management, for the gas and related industries. The role focused on business development, marketing, maximizing profits, staff development, Health & Safety, Environmental Issues and acting as the focus for a growing team of engineers in a
highly competitive market. I was a key member of several initiatives during the formative years of the organization including planning and finance management, and the introduction of an ISO Quality Management System.
British Gas
Project Development Manager Nov 1995 - Dec 1996
Design Engineering Manager May 1992 - Oct 1995
Operations Engineering Manager Apr 1982 - May 1992
During my time with BG, I managed teams of up to thirty people engaged on multidisciplinary construction projects
with values in excess of £20m. I spent 10 years on Operations and Maintenance of HP Transmission Systems including HP, LP and Salt Cavity Storage and gained a broad experience of Plant and Distribution Systems. I
developed a leadership style geared to achieving improvements in team performance while paying attention to
members’ needs, concerns and contribution, and was responsible for managing the resolution of technical design problems both in-house and as a consultant for external customers in the UK and Hong Kong.
As part of the development of my managerial skills I advised on company wide issues such as incentive schemes, legal problems, costing and maintenance policies and team structure issues. Starting in the late 80’s I developed a keen interest in training and development, guiding young engineers through mentoring and training.
