Philosophy of Education
Education involves the critical examination of conflicting points of view and cannot flourish in the absence of free inquiry and discussion. Teachers should be facilitators and help students to use and develop their minds and critical thinking skills. While students learn in different ways, the more a student does something, the better they become at it. For example, the more a student reads, the better the reader they become; the more they write, the better the writer they become. Teachers should present material to students in a variety of ways and allow the students to practice the material.
Schools should be a safe place for students, both physically as well as a safe place to express their views. Students should also understand that learning is a life-long process that does not start when you begin school and end when you graduate. If a student can become an independent thinker and use the knowledge they learned at school, he will be a productive member of society. A teacher’s job includes not only presenting information to a student, but also includes preparing them for the world.
