Notes from your Administrative Officer; Before long, the boating season will be upon us, and your cruise planning committee is hard at work planning activities for the Squadron to participate in. We have several plans in the works right now, such as a trip to the Spaghetti Warehouse with a fun filled evening with the Toledo Mud Hens game following, and, of course, the fireworks show to top off the evening. More information will be coming, but tentatively mark your calendars for Sunday eve, June 14, 2009. We are also looking into a week long cruise (date to be an-nounced) to Lemington, Pelee, and Put in Bay Islands. There is also a possible cruise to Boblo Island with the Win-dsor Squadron towards the end of June. The would be a weekend cruise. Our annual picnic will be at the Lost Peninsula Marina on June 2, 2009 (rain or shine, as have the clubhouse area). More in-formation will be coming as the date approaches. The Point Place Days Parade is June 6, 2009, so please mark your calendars and plan to join us for a fun filled afternoon! There will also be an Operations Training Session coming up soon, and I will update you as to the date, time, and place as I gather the information. Please call or e-mail me if you are inter-ested in taking Operations Training. As new members, I encourage you; as current members, have you taken Operations Training? Please contact me at (419)726-4105 or [email protected] As you can see, there is a lot going on for this boating sea-son, and I encourage each and every one of you to participate in as much as you can so we can reach out to those who need to hear about safe boating. The more we expose the Toledo Sail and Power Squadron, the more education we can share, and the more lives we can save. This is what the Toledo Sail and Power Squad-ron is about...safe boating and building friendships through fellow-ship. Lt/C Linda Fairchild

Ahoy Squadron Members, As I write this, it is 15 degrees and windy outside. I am sure you are like me and hope that this winter weather is over soon. I am so ready to feel the sun on my back as I clean and wax the boat, getting her ready for another fun season of rendezvous with fellow squadron members. Lt/C Linda Fairchild and the rendezvous committee are busy working on some ideas for new events for 2009. Please keep an eye on the Breeze and the website for more details. Congratulations Toledo Sail and Power Squadron! Our squadron was the only D29 squadron that was represented at all 8 District 29 Change of Watches. This is only one example of the commitment of your bridge to support USPS, D29 and the Toledo Sail and Power Squadron. The D29 Spring Conference is being held at Sawmill Creek Resort, Huron, OH 27-29 March 2009. Representing TSPS will be, Lt Tom Haines, Lt Jason Snook, P/C Jim Som-mers, Lt/C Ed Fairchild, Lt/C Mary Kay Inguagiato, Larry Inguagiato, Lt/C Bill Patterson, Cdr Larry Cole. I encourage all members to attend. This is a fun, rewarding event de-signed for all squadron members. It gives you a chance to socialize with members of other squadrons in our district. A registration form can be found in the Spring Pier 29 that you should have received by mail. The Pier 29 has a list of the seminars and meeting schedules. I hope to see many of you there. P/C Jim Sommers conducted the first Boat Smart Class of the season at the W.W. Knight Center on Saturday February 21st. There were 24 students who all passed. Several stu-dents have expressed an interest in the squadron. Thank you to all who showed up and helped with the class. Steer the Course in 2009 Cdr Larry Cole

Perrysburg Boat Club held their Change of Watch at Carranor Hunt and Polo Club. I was asked to represent the New Commodore Dave Dickie and his wife Lady Ruth. We have been friends with them for years and were honored to be able to represent the Toledo Sail and Power Squadron. P/C B.W. Goebel, SN

VESSEL SAFETY CHECKS It is that time of year to start thinking about warm weather and boating. At the April meeting, you will be introduced to the non-snowbird Vessel Safety Check Exam-iners. They are members of our very own “Dynamic Dozen”. You’ll learn how they will be participating in a National Campaign—and how each and everyone of you can participate! We hope that you will participate every time you are on the water. A critical activity of the United States Power Squadrons is conducting Vessel Safety Checks. A Vessel Safety Check is a courtesy examination of your boat (vessel) to verify the presence and condition of certain Safety Equip-ment required by State and Federal regula-tions. Your Vessel Examiners are trained specialists, and members of your Toledo Sail and Power Squadron, and your friends! Pick your favorite Vessel Examiner and schedule your courtesy Vessel Safety Check. The “Dynamic Dozen” have a goal of exceed-ing last year’s 300+ record. YOUR help is needed! In order to promote the ideals of the US Power Squadrons, we are going to aim for 100% of our member’s vessels sporting a 2009 Vessel Safety Sticker! (Please call us or we will come to visit each and everyone of YOU)! Pat Meyer, P VSC Chair Email: [email protected] (With any questions)

Please mark your calendars and planning on attending. I attended my first conference shortly after joining the squadron this past fall, as a new member it helped me to understand a little more. You will be amazed at the information you can pick up and the friendships that you can make. If you have never attended
a District Conference I would encourage you to do so.
