Volturi lifestyle for so long before they either begin to embrace it

Jacob was forgetting what it was like to feel human. He had

remained in wolf form for weeks, thinking of little but survival and

staying on the move. Every now and then Quil or Sam had tried tospeak with him, but he did not respond. He wanted to be left alone.

He kept his mind empty of human emotions, aware only of the

hunt.

For several days he had not come across any fresh tracks,and he had not caught wind of any new scent. He was heading

north again now. They seemed to prefer cold, sunless areas.Within days of leaving La Push he had picked up the trail

of two of the Bloodless, and it had been laughable how easy it was

to track them down and tear them apart. He wanted nothing more

than to find more of them. They seemed entirely helpless if caughtoff guard, and he planned to destroy them all, one by one.

The desire to rid the world of them was becoming stronger

every day he lived as a wolf. He focused on it and allowed it togrow and push everything else out of his mind. It edged out all

human emotion and any thought of his human self.He felt stronger than he ever had. All the helpless, weak

feelings of being human were drowned by the need to seek out the

Bloodless. He would not stop until they were all dead.

Sam’s voice in his mind jarred him and he slowed his pace.The reminder of the human world was unwelcome and he let out a

low, steady growl. He considered ignoring him and moving on. Hemay consider going back to La Push eventually, but it would not

be anytime soon.

Bella needs help, Sam’s voice said in his mind.

A guttural howl was ripped from his chest at the name. Henever wanted to hear it again. She was dead to him. She was surely

one of the Bloodless by now. Leave me be, Jacob responded. I want nothing to do with it.

We need to talk , Sam continued. The Cullens are planning

war against the coven that took Bella. There are many Brothers

there. With the Cullens’ help, the Brothers could destroy the

largest group of vampires in the world.

A thrill rushed through Jacob’s blood. He would not turn

down the chance to fight the Bloodless.

Where? he asked. There was a pause before Sam answered.
