One area of focus includes green initiatives and a focus on other renewable resources including solar in the residential marketplace. “We are increasingly providing consumers with the option of buying their energy from renewable sources, whether that’s electricity or carbon offset credits,” says Hartwick.

Company traditionally has delivered products within weeks, the technology allows it to deliver products to customers within days.
The acquisition of Hudson Energy, an American commercial marketer, in May 2010 has given Just Energy access to Hudson’s innovative sales portal for brokers buying for commercial and industrial businesses. The unique and advanced portal gives broker up-to-date pricing information about a particular commercial segment, which the broker can then relay to the customer.
According to Hartwick, long term success is contingent upon embracing the latest technologies as well as the ability to look ahead and prepare the organization to adapt to the changes in technology as it develops. “You have got to be at the same pace of technology that your customers are or, if not, ahead,” says Hartwick. “You have to look out 2 or 3 years or you’ll very quickly become irrelevant.”

Though the Company is using this technology for renewing customers, in the future, the intention is to expand this service to new customers as well. “We think that it’s something, whether it’s Apple or the other providers that ends up coming out with products, that we think can revolutionize that sale with the customer as we go forward,” says Hartwick.

Green enerGy proJeCtSThough Just Energy partners with many companies including Shell, BP, Constellation Energy Group and Bruce Power to offer electricity and natural gas services to its customers, they also invest in green energy companies to offer renewable options to its customers. “We have green energy partners where we’ve made significant investments, like First Wind in Upstate New York,” says Nybida. “We invest heavily where we market.” These investments allow Just Energy to purchase local power, which supports the local economy and improves the viability of similar green projects.
A growing interest in green energy among residential and commercial customers has created a demand for more renewable energy options. As a result, Just Energy invests in a myriad of green projects including wind, hydro and projects to reduce emissions. The Company has wind and
hydro projects in Alberta and Ontario, Canada as well as in the United States in Massachusetts, Texas and New York. Additionally, it is involved in emission reduction projects, specifically methane gas capture, in Ontario and British Columbia, Canada and in the United States in Ohio, New York and Illinois.
In addition to innovative green energy projects, Just Energy has a green office program where all of its offices are green.
