A Message From THE CHA IRMAN
By Dr. Shayne Green, Chairman, Brazoria
County Republican Party
We can all agree that 2020 is a year that our generation will never forget. We faced a global pandemic that started a domino effect that crippled the U.S. economy, put nearly 8 million workers on the unemployment rolls, and restricted individual liberty in ways Americans could have never conceived in the freest society on Earth. Thanks to instigation by radical leftist groups, gatherings took a violent turn leading to murder, riots, looting, and cities set ablaze under the banner of “peaceful protest.” Targets of hatred included American historical figures such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Monuments to them and institutions bearing their names, and the names of many others, were soon under consideration for destruction or renaming. Mount Rushmore was even included on some lists for the chopping block. 2020 was also the year in which corporations cowardly surrendered to the forces of political correctness and engaged in wholesale virtue signaling, agreeing to change the names and logos of any products or brands that could be considered even remotely offensive to any individuals or groups. The insanity of 2020 did not stop there, though. One of the most disturbing ideas that emerged was the defunding of police. It was an idea that led to the slashing of police budgets, including here in Texas at the Austin P.D. Yes, 2020 was a year that tested us all. 2020 tested our beliefs. 2020 tested our values. 2020 tested our resolve. It tested the very fabric of our society. For most of us, these tests
reaffirmed our commitment to law and order, conservative principles, and individual liberty. These tests also revealed to us which of our leaders we could trust to stand up for those same values. Some, like President Trump, showed leadership and backbone and a refusal to back down to forces that threaten our values. Some, though, caved to pressure and were complicit with the opposition and the anarchists. Too many of them sold out our liberty for a few grains of supposed security. Yes, 2020 proved what we have known all along—that elections do have consequences. We have at least one more test we have to pass before we can get to the other side of 2020. That test is the November General Election. This election will be a validation of our values and a test of whether we will elect conservatives who will stand up for those values, especially the rule of law. This past year—with its volatility, with its riots in the streets, its mayhem, looting, injuries and murders—has revealed those among us who yearn for anarchy and an end to the civil society we hold dear. These anarchists and traitors to our values would be happy to strike a match and watch our nation burn. November is the time to remind them that peace-loving conservatives are still the majority by electing our Republican candidates. Our priorities in this fight start at the top with President Trump, who has delivered on his campaign pledges including backing law enforcement and nominating conservative federal judges and three conservatives to the United States Supreme Court. Our U.S. Senators and congressional representatives are also critical to law and order in their role as legislators. U.S. Senators are additionally vital in ensuring confirmation of conservative justices to the Supreme Court. Moving down the ballot, our state senators and representatives are key to drafting our state laws. Another critical duty of our Texas Legislature next year will be redistricting—drawing the lines for US Congress, state senate, state house and state board of education. This is the reason liberal Democrats from across the country have poured in over $7 million to take control of the Texas House of Representatives. If the Democrats win, you can kiss your Republican Congressman, State Senator and State Representative goodbye. This is how they plan to turn Texas from red to blue. The heart of the ballot are the races for judges, the linchpins of justice in our state. At the bottom of the ballot, we have elections for sheriff, county commissioners, justices of the peace and constables. All of which underscore the imperative for voting in every race on the ballot. And unlike previous elections, there is no straight ticket voting this year, which means voters must vote in every single race to elect the Republican ticket. Candidates will be identified by party, but every race must be voted. Finally, as a service to you, I have listed the Republican Primary voting history for non-partisan municipal candidates who will also appear on this year’s General Election ballot. Let us hope that this is the last test of 2020. And let us work to make sure that it is one we pass by getting ourselves and our like-minded friends out to vote, and, when we do, by voting the entire Republican ticket from top to bottom. In doing so, we can stand up against those who see the chaos of 2020 as an opportunity to advance their socialist agenda. We can, instead, ensure that the rule of law stands to defend us for another day.
We need a businessman, not a politician, as our next Mayor...
