Army: Marshal Castelo Branco • 1964-1967• Was elected as a provisional
president. His goal was reorganize the economy and then go back in a democracy.
• The principal point in his government was the decrease of inflation the biggest problem in Brazil that time. “Economic miracle”
• Increase the army in more than 70%

Fear: Torture was frequently used during that time
How did the dictatorship ended
• The last president favored democracy and finished his presidential term with open election for the next president.

• Dilma Rouselff: fought against the dictators, was arrested and tortured.
• Can not go to USA because of her “political crimes”
• Polemic about being a communist
