CLEAR SPACE
The logo for University Research Week is a minimalistic wordmark. The thought behind it was to create something easy to read, fun and inviting, and a symbol so simplistic that it would be relatable for as many areas of research as possible. A magnifying glass is usually paired with the idea of finding or discovery, and this is what our students and faculty at Carolina are doing. Pursuing knowledge through the means of finding solutions and/or discovering and, possibly solving, problems. Although we strive to highlight the amazing research at Carolina as much as possible, University Research Week is a designated period where we want research to be the center of attention, as if it were magnified at 100%.
The logo for University Research Week has four color options: Carolina Blue, black, white, and full color.
To ensure legibility, always keep a minimum clear space around the logo. This space isolates the mark from any graphical elements that might conflict with, overpower, and lessen the impact of the logo. It also allows the identifier to breathe.
The minimum clear space is defined by the height of the “e” in “Research.”
• Do not change the colors of the logo.• Do not print the logo in black over a dark color and
do not print the logo in white over a light color.• Do not place the logo over a heavily patterned
background.

SECONDARY LOGO
UNIVERSITY LOGO
University Research Week’s secondary logo, its mark, can be used in replacement of the primary, full logo. However, this is only during certain circumstances, such as when the complete event name is displayed as header text. It is available in the same four color options that the primary logo is offered: Carolina Blue, black, white, and full color.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill logo is the keystone of our Univeristy’s visual identity. This logo, or a University unit or department logo, should be used on all communications materials. Using the logo consistently will enhance the recognition of the University by all audiences. For logo requirements on the Old Well logo, please go to the website: identity.unc.edu
