’Creating is ultimate fun.
The mind is capable
of creating anything,
the hands follow.
The mind and eye
dream, the hand draws.
They work with creative
leading architects and
interior designers on
special projects for hotels,
clubs and restaurants.
Their latest project was for
the Dutch Embassy in New
Delhi. The mysterious Night
Watch is shown there as an
art installation.
This project formed the base
for the new “claire-obscure”
Night Watch collection
that brings tradition into
today’s trendy space.

’Dreaming.
The mind imagines.
My hands materialise.
2006/2007

van Egmond are working
since 17 years as

are responsible for the
design and are co-founders
of Brand van Egmond.
They create their lighting
sculptures in freedom with
fun and passion, never
thinking of the market
demand. With their studio/
laboratory background
they make “haute couture”
pieces for an international
public as well as for
residential projects.

His shadow is watching over you….
Claire – obscure; mystique and mystery, Rembrandt’s spirit
lingers on in the Nightwatch, a ‘dressed-down’ chandelier
which reaches back to the basic design of the early copper
chandelier. Simple and bare, yet glowing and warm, it lifts
tradition into today’s space.
The monumental two-dimensional shapes, breathing the
17th century, are hand-crafted together with nuts and bolts and
powder coated in a range of trendy colours.
Past, present and future dissolve into one glowing celebration
of the Autonomy of Dutch Design throughout the ages.

The fascination on
architecture and space
remains our fi rst love,
says William Brand.
Being part of a space is
quite different to holding
an object in your hands.
One is admiration, the
other one is physical
experience. Architecture
remains for me an
escape in which I truly
fi nd myself, space is
always magic. Working
in and with a particu-
lar space allows you to
pace yourself, there are
elements you best leave
alone and other elements
you might use to excel.
You always work with
something bigger than
yourself. Architecture is
like baking a cake and
making the icing too. Our
lighting range for exam-
ple is one line of icings.
They all excel, none is
neutral and they are
omnipresent in any
room. Some designers
create objects that are
part of a space,
we do not.
Nothing we make is
ever neutral.

Candles & Spirits is the result of a unique co-operation: the combination of Swarovski’s glamour with a hint of exuberance and Brand van Egmond’s contemporary design formed the starting point for this jubilant chandelier.
In order to revive the traditional chandelier and the lasting values it represents, William and Annet decided to create todays crown jewel. The magic and poetry of a fl oating candle were the inspiration. The execution was found in making crystal the centrepiece, in terms of design, but moreover for the shine and glamour it represents.
Nickel or gold provide the trendy or exuberant touch, turning Candles and Spirits into a fashionable statement of “great minds that think alike…”

The extremely refi ned elegance of the fi rst
co-creation with Swarovski had to be matched by
a bold and almost avant-garde statement.
A move from the early synergy to an object
where ‘les extrèmes se touchent’: the Icy Lady.
The result is a true ‘feast to the eye’ at fi rst sight.
Distinctly female with curvy, fl owery shapes,
fl amboyant and fun. At a second glance, cool and aloof
with perfectly cut Swarovski icicles, almost frozen in time.
Keep your distance, she is made to admire from afar.
Yet when illuminated, her cool looks in pitch black,
snow white or crystal clear will glow and surely draw you in.

of nature to the pleasures of life,

of the introduction of Delphinium.
