Creating a Document• Once the Word Processor is selected from the Main Menu, the student will need to create a document and decide the saved location and name the file prior to starting their document.

• Press the SPACEBAR until you hear “Create a document”

Let’s name the new file ‘tester’.

Typing Sentences• Type the following sentences keeping in mind that if you make a typing mistake, simply press the BACKSPACE key.

Saving a document• KeyWord saves your document automatically upon exiting the document. Press SPACEBAR-‐E to exit document

The Cursor• As you begin to type, the cursor in the refreshable Braille display, which represents your typing position, will be displayed as dots 7 and 8.

Understanding the Cursor
• Editing takes effect at the cursor position• You must position the cursor at the point you want the change to start• A new character will be inserted at the cursor position• BACKSPACE deletes the character to the left of the cursor

Identifying a Character by Phonetic Alphabet
• Pressing SPACE-‐3-‐6 twice in a row will expand the letter into a word, such as A-‐Alpha B-‐Bravo

• The BrailleNote APEX can display 32 characters at a time• To facilitate reading, the BrailleNote APEX avoids breaking the last word by leaving the last few cells blank

Practice• Go to the top of the document• Listen to the document from the beginning to the end, word by word• Move the cursor to the word “night”• Spell the word• Practice listening & reading the document• When you are done, turn the BrailleNote APEX off by first going to the Main Menu.
