Pre-Production

ProposalWe propose to create a narrative style music video for Avicii’s Without You. The video will be based around Jordan contemplating what could happen if he is rejected by his girl interest. The video follows the thoughts of Jordan as to how he thinks he will get over this rejection. His friends take him to various locations in their local area and explore the city, misbehaving in public for their own amusement. They involve themselves in activities such as pool, bike riding – anything to keep Jordan entertained. As the video develops, flashbacks and images of his interest will cross is mind, which will randomly feature in the video, showing her at the forefront of his mind.Before the end of the music video, the most poignant moments of the video itself and unseen scenes - however they will be in reverse, leading back to reality where Jordan is standing with roses outside a front door.

Since this is a personal story, we look to use both 1st and 3rd person perspective. The 1st person perspective will allow us to make the video more personal and almost like a documentary about what Jordan will do if he is rejected. This perspective will be used when exploring the city and on transport. The 3rd person perspective will allow for panoramic shots and offer an unbiased perspective of the events, excluding the viewer from the activities. This perspective will be used for scenery, wide shots, still shots, dramatic effect and capturing poignant moments as it will be with clarity and from an angle that shows the footage clearly.

TreatmentWe will be making a music video for Avicii’s ‘Without you’. We have chosen to do a narrative style video following a boy (Jordan) who is contemplating how to cope with rejection. We want to make this video have a ‘feel good’ vibe and stress the importance of individuality. We also look to highlight the fact that intimate relationships aren’t the only type of relationship you should value. In order to captivate this ‘feel good’ feeling, we need to recreate this truly. So, we have decided to explore London as a group and record the various activities we partake in. This will include our journey, famous buildings, misbehaving in public. The journey is all a figment of Jordan’s imagination, him trying to deduce what he would do if his intimate relationship didn’t work. All of the colours would be brighter and more vibrant. When we switch back to the reality, the colours should be colder.

EquipmentCannon DSLR – For filming purposes. All of the still shots and ground level shots will be captured using the Cannon.Phantom 4 Drone – The drone will provide us with the opportunity to take aerial shots enabling us to have diversity in angles and shot type. However, we are not certain we will use this piece of equipment.Tripod – For a balanced and steady shot, usually for a third person perspective where the camera angle is predetermined and an actors position is set.

Shot Type

The camera shots will be mostly mid and close-up shots to keep the video intimate. Wide shots will be used to establish location and some filler scenes through time manipulation of clouds moving or people walking through streets.

BudgetWe have given ourselves a budget of £100 to complete the product. This is to cover travel costs, props, celebrity hire and any brand exposure we decide to do. Jake was looking into hiring Dolph Lundgren to boost interest to help the success of the product by attaching a well-known name to it. However, his price may be too high for our budget.These are our travel costs for a day of shooting in London in pounds to 1 d.p.

Copyright DetailsThe song is nowhere near the end of its copyright. We can use the song and not be in breach of copyright so long as we state that the composition was used for educational purposes and that we do not make any profits from our work financially. If we keep to this, the educational rule applies and we will not have to worry about being sued for illegal use of material. However, to cover ourselves, when posting the video, we will make it private so that the general public cannot view our work and only send the link directly to Josh or make it as an mp4 file and submit instead.The camerawork will be original and will be totally different to the video already released – this is set on another planet and follows a sci-fi style. It is highly edited with visual effects and unrealistic. So there shouldn’t be an issue with going ahead with our concept.

StoryboardThe music video will follow the methods Drake exploits in order to get over a theoretical breakup. The video begins with Drake at the door of the house of his loved one with flowers but soon his imagination takes over and shows him what he could do to get over this if the exercise doesn’t go to plan. Drake begins to think about his fitness and we see him begin to workout cardio –wise, running

and jogging to keep his mind off of the let down. Drake documents his exploration of London with a group of friends, another method to keep his mind on other things. We see him begin to enjoy the company of others a little more, being sociable and up beat. However, the thoughts always come back. Drake starts to reminisce over the past times, looking at a photograph of the girl he likes. Drake’s mind flickers back and forth from the picture and the events in London. Eventually, he decides to remove the reminder of the girl from his mind and smashes the frame and burns the picture. Back in reality, we see the flowers have been dropped and a figure is walking away in the background. The video is not in chronological order so the footage will jump from location to location without a smooth transition.
