PSEB OVERVIEW• Statutory body formed on 1-2-1959 under the Electricity Supply

Act.1948• Started with the modest installed capacity of 62 MW• generating capacity 6841 MW as on 31-3-2009• gross generation during the year2008-09 was 38880 Million Units• PSEB operated its own Generation Power Plants , also constructed

and maintained its Transmission and Distribution system• serves more than 66.31 lakhs consumers comprising of

approximate – 54.86 lakhs – General– 1.12 lakhs - Industrial – 10.33 lakhs - Agricultural connections

Reasons for Reforms

• Investment requirements exceed the national capacities

• The performance of the infrastructure sector has not met the international standards

• The managerial and the technical resources were inadequate

• Innovations in technology have been enormous• New approaches of economy (privatisation and

independent regulation) were ignored

• To provide quantitative and qualitative un-interruptive supply of electricity to consumers at an economical price with effective and efficient use of resources.

• Spanco Ltd. has won the IT modernization project of (PSEB)

• focus to bring in actual, demonstrable performance in terms of sustained energy loss reduction.

• strengthening of the Electricity Distribution system

• Size of current order-284 crore
