Normal Operation The Semsafe watermist unit is released when a push button is activated manually by crew. Pushing the button will energize a solenoid release unit (24VDC) installed on the main Nitrogen cylinder (200bar) in the Semsafe watermist unit. The solenoid on the release unit will then open the main Nitrogen cylinder valve. The main Nitrogen cylinder will then pneumatically open the remaining Nitrogen cylinders. The Nitrogen cylinders are connected to a Nitrogen manifold. This manifold is connected to each of the water cylinders. Via the manifold, Nitrogen are led into the button of the water cylinders, and the potable water is then released into the water manifold and further into the pipe system ending in the engine room. Each Nitrogen cylinder is equipped with a pressure gauge and a pressure switch. When the Nitrogen cylinder pressure is 190bar or below on one or more Nitrogen cylinders an alarm will be raised. The semsafe watermist unit has a capacity of supply of freshwater to the engine room for 30 minutes of operation. Emergency Operation Should the electrical release system (24VDC) for the release unit fail, emergency release of the Nitrogen cylinders can be done by manually turning the release handle on the main Nitrogen cylinder. Remaining Nitrogen cylinders will be released pneumatically. After Release After any release of the Semsafe watermist unit, the water cylinders must be refilled with freshwater/ glycol mixture and the Nitrogen cylinders replaced/refilled with new nitrogen cylinders of 200 bar pressure.
