    Buy ALL the Things

Online shopping is an interesting sort of pastime. While it can have a negative e ect on smaller, local retailers depending on whatcustomers choose to buy, there are certain things that youre not going to nd at your brick-and-mortar specialty retailer, let aloneat Walmart or Best Buy. There are also plenty of things youd nd online that you never knew you wanted, but you still nd yourself pulling out your wallet and getting your credit card. Here are a few of the sites I like to look at for a variety of products.

N w gg.A few years back, I bought the necessary parts from Newegg to build my own custom gaming computer. It was a good decision inmy opinion, since whenever one part goes out, I can just upgrade it to something di erent. If youre looking for computer parts, cellphone equipment or just general electronics, Neweggs a pretty good way to go. I built a high-end gaming computer (in 2009) forjust under $1000, where I would have paid almost twice that elsewhere. I also bought a screen protector for my phone. Best Buypriced it at $20, Newegg had it at just $11.

W .Remember all of those sites like Groupon, Living Social and the like? They used to actually sell deals for places in the area (restaurantsand the like, mostly.) Lately, though, they mostly resell goods from other online retailers. Woot.com is kinda like that, except that itisnt annoying and doesnt clog your inbox with o ers from some random bed and breakfast in the Ozarks. Basically, its got a set of daily deals for things like sports, technology, home, kids stu and even wine. One big deal I wish I could a ord: a 47 1080p LCD Tfrom Vizio for under $500. Ill just have to stick to my 26 720p TV for now. # rstworldproblems

thi I WhyI B .To be fair, this isnt a site where youd actually buy stu from, rather, its sort of a gathering point for all sorts of neat, shiny, andsometimes esoteric items. Most of their links redirect to Amazon or Ebay, but there are some very unique things here. Want to makeyour iPhone look like a Game Boy? Go nuts. How about in atable oating bumper cars? That would make next summer a lot morefun at the pool. Maybe a light switch made from old arcade machine buttons? Who wouldnt want a $190,000 hovercraft? Or maybe

an iron throne replica from Game of Thrones? You cant be a worse king than Geo rey, at the very least.

    >> Interesting to think that just a bit over four months ago, the Thunder were playing in the NBA Finals againstthe Miami Heat. It didnt go as well as we would have hoped, but KD and the gang are back for another run at it.Likewise, the 2K series is back with the new season. Unlike EAs Madden NFL series, this series doesnt rest on itsmonopoly, rather, it makes a solid, fun game. A revamped career mode (including in-universe social media) andgraphical power make this a fun game to play, but its still going to take a very long time to get good at it: newplayers dont have much of a tutorial and the learning curve can be pretty steep.

Latkes for LoveJust asking around, every fraternity man or sorority woman will tell you that there is something that makes their organization a lithe rest. For the men of Alpha Epsilon Pi, or AEPi, that rings particularly true. Unlike the other nineteen fraternities that make upCouncil or more commonly known as IFC, the majority of AEPis members are Jewish.

Although its the only IFC fraternity to have a religious connation, Alpha Epsilon Pi exists to provide more of a cultural and socisimilar backgrounds, not just a focus on Jewish religion. In fact, AEPi accepts men from any race or religion into their brotherhoJudaism as a bond that is held by the majority of their members.

And their traditions re ect that.

On Thursday, November 29, they are holding their 7th Annual Latkes for Love philanthropy event. Even though each fraternity hthe community, AEPis philanthropy event focuses on traditional food and the Jewish culture here in Norman. Additionally, all thgo to Save a Childs Heart and Sharsheret.

Save a Childs Heart (SACH) is an organization that builds hospitals in under-developed regions to provide quality health care. Iis dedicated to the idea that every child deserves the best medical treatment available, regardless of the childs nationality, religi

nancial situation, according to SACHs o cial website. It was founded in 1995 after Dr. Amram Cohen, a cardiac surgeon, team

from Ethiopia and performed heart surgeries on two children in desperate need. Now, Save A Childs Heart is ourishing more thLikewise, Sharsheret is making great things happen in the world too. It is a not-for-pro t organization supporting young womenand their families, of all Jewish backgrounds, facing breast cancer, according to their o cial website. They help women byproviding resources for breast cancer inquiries, peer suppor ters and educational resources nationwide.

Sharsheret was founded in 2001 by Rochelle Shoretz, who realized that Jewish women neededto have people to talk to about breast cancer that relate to their age and culture. Infact, since it is fairly common for Jewish women to inherit the BRCA1 orBRCA2 gene, they are at an increased risk of breast and ovariancancer. Instead of the usual 12% chance of breastcancer, these women can have up to an80% chance of being diagnosedwith the disease at somepoint in their lives, accordingto breastcancer.org.

Latkes for Love is happeningThursday, November 29th from6pm-10pm on the corner of Boyd and Elm, at the OU HillelJewish Student Center. All in all, the men of Alpha Epsilon Picontribute positively not only to the Greekcommunity, but to the Jewish community aswell. Dont miss this great event, where youllsample great food and contribute to two veryworthwhile organizations.

    The OpolisDowntown Norman113 N. Crawford

Celebrating ten years of bringing the best in local, regional and national acts to Norman, TheOpolis will rock your socks o . Some people might say its a small place; others would call itintimate. You realize how important the size of The Opolis is when every tight space aroundeach person lls with sound, creating an inescapable bubble. This is the magic of the venue.Owners Andy and Marian Nunez of The Starlight Mints have done an incredible job of gettingbig names to come to town in October alone they brought in Washed Out and Dan Deacon, two super-popular electronic acts. Others who have graced the stage at The Opolis since itsinception include The Polyphonic Spree, Magnolia Electric Company, Arcade Fire and The Shins.Though these are big names, the heart of The Opolis is local music. Local bands that play theOpolis include Feathered Rabbit, Gentle Ghost and Depth & Current, among many others. Goout and check out these bands for a taste of great music and an evening of fun. The Opolis sellsbeer so you can enjoy a cold one while you rock out, but its non-smoking so you wont smell

like an ashtray when you walk out. Congratulations to The Opolis for ten years of amazingmusic we look forward to many more!

Listen to the relaxing sounds of the piano or the original tunes of a singer/songwriter atOthellos, where you can grab a plate of pasta or some pizza and a glass of vino and enjoy liveentertainment. Take note: this is an ideal spot for a date! Othellos brings a mix of music, with Joel Forlenza singing and playing piano on some nights, and musicians like John Calvin,Ali Harter, Susan Herndon with Terry Ware and others performing on other nights. The barside of Othellos is where youll encounter said live entertainment, in an atmosphere t for amobster during Prohibition, complete with deep-red walls and wood accents. Open mic nightsshowcase local musicians, and Othellos is in the process of a local songwriters competition --the nals will be held on November 8 -- with participants invited from past open mic nights.

    The DeliCampus Corner309 White Street

Im not sure I have enough words to describe The Deli. Ultimately its my favorever, but thats just one persons opinion. The Deli is the only place in town thatmusic seven days a week, so its the perfect place for hard-core music lovers. Thsandwiches to be found here, as one might suspect, but your ears will get blastedbest music around. Theres usually a $5 cover charge, but I guarantee its worth eWalking in you see the stage on the left, with an open area in front of it thats usuwith people. Assorted tables and benches ll the perimeter, and steps lead up to level. This is where the bar is, as well as the best seat in the house, the red roundis a debate over whether The Corner, near the stage, is a better spot.) The specia

Deli is the Red Cup, 32 ounces of beer that will quench anyones thirst. One notthis place is the loyalty to local music. Youll nd the same handful of bands andregularly play here, with a spattering of regional acts coming through, but it nevbecause the quality is so insanely good. Speaking of loyalty, youll nd Travis LDamn Quails there almost every Monday, and Mike Hosty Solo has lled the plasince I-dont-know-when. Other must-see and -hear Deli regulars include PidginParker Milsap, My So-Called Band, The Saucy Gentlemens Club and of course,Ive left out so many ) With an incredible bar sta , awesome music, and great(albeit smoky), youre really missing out i f you havent spent an evening at The

    Blue Bonnet BarDowntown321 E Main

Not to be underestimated as an up-and-coming competitor to the above establishedvenues is the Blue Bonnet Bar. This is

becoming a local music hotspot, and its easyto see why. In my opinion, its mostly theatmosphere. A mural of life-size runninghorses, pool tables, shu eboard, tablesmade from industrial spools and a jukebox(does it work?) are the elements that makethis dive bar an unpretentious yet incrediblyhip place to be. Musicians seem to love it,and patrons love the live music as well asthe very cheap beer. In recent days, theBlue Bonnet has hosted Nathan McEuenwith Chrome Pony, the Beau Mans eld Trioand Parker Milsap. Make sure to go by anATM before you head out to this bar itscash-only.

ti tHuNDer up!The Peake will be rocking once again this NBA season, a FULL NBA season at that. After a loss in the Western Conference Semi- nals, then a loss in the NBAthe highest of highs this basketball season and bring the championship home to OKC.

Right before the season started, the Thunder traded away one of the most beloved players for the Thunder, James Harden. Gone are the Beard, three-point celebrbrought to the Thunder. Here is a look at the roster and what I think will happen this year for the Thunder.

#34 Hasheem Thabeet: Thabeet was the number two overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. The 73 center has never really gotten goingame and only 10.4 minutes of play. Thunder fans can hope the Thabeet that played so well for UConn shows up and helps OKC down low.

#25 DeAndre Liggins: The second-year Kentucky player won the last roster spot for the OKC Thunder. Liggins did not get much playing time in Orlando, only pland 1.9 points a game. Do not expect much from Liggins this year, as he should be the last guy on the bench.

#33 Daniel Orton: This hometown kid has done well. Orton, a Bishop McGuiness graduate, played at Kentucky. The second-year player was waived and brougfans are wanting good things from Orton and with hard work I feel Orton could provide some useful ll-in minutes for the big men of the Thunder.

    # 4 Nick Collison: Mr. Hustle for the Thunder. Collison takes charge; he dives on the court for loose balls and does just whatever the team needs him to do. Cominutes of play, but a lot of what Collison does is not registered on the box score. The ultimate team player Collison will continue to play a huge role for the Tmomentum of a game.#11 Jeremy Lamb: One of the players acquired in the Harden trade, the 65 versatile scorer should add some length and scoring o the bench this year. A decenquick with his hands and could help produce some steals leading to transition baskets.

#15 Reggie Jackson: The second-year guard from Boston College spent most of last year learning from Derek Fisher and may see increased amount of playing ti7.4 points and 3.8 steals in the preseason.

#3 Perry Jones III: The Thunders rst-round draft pick is loaded with that dangerous word in sports, POTENTIAL. Jones III is 611, has great athleticism and at the rim. Jones III showed ashes at Baylor but was very inconsistent and needs to play hard every time he is on the court. The sky is the limit for Jones III.

#23 Kevin Martin: This is the 9th year in the league for Martin. In his career, Martin averages 18.4 points a game and is good from behind the arc and at the freethe lost points o the bench with Harden gone; however Martin is a defensive liability.#6 Eric Maynor: Manor is entering his fourth year in the league with an average of 4.5 points a game in just over 15 minutes of playing time a game. Maynor when healthy can be a very serviceable back up for Russell Westbrook, and we may even see Maynor on the court running the point with Westbrook at the two s

#2 Thabo Sefolosha: The defensive leader of the Thunder, Sefolosha has been working on his o ensive game and looks to add to his 5.4 points-a-game careercon dant in his outside shot.#5 Kendrick Perkins: Known for his scowl and technical fouls, Perkins was brought to OKC to have a physical force. The 610 center, who averages 6.5 rebounhimself just a bit to stay on the court and do what he needs to do for the Thunder.

#9 Serge Ibaka: Iblocka as he is know by the Thunder faithful, Serge is rapidly becoming not only one of the most popular Thunder players, he is becoming popuincreased his scoring output last year and now averages 8.4 points a game with 6.9 rebounds and 2.9 blocks a game. Look for more o ensive out put from Ibaka

#0 Russell Westbrook: I personally have never seen such a lightning rod for controversy on a good team in my life. National pundits argue as well as local peopteam or not. You will get great brilliant games from Russ, and also some games that leave your head shaking wondering what the heck was he thinking. Westbr6.8 assists, but it is his turnovers and shot selection that gets people riled up. Ill say this: I would rather have Westbrook than not have him. He makes a dynami

#35 Kevin Durant: The defending league scoring leader, Durant is one of the best in the game. His 26.2 points per game average has helped him become the spoints, only behind LeBron James. The only thing I could ask from Durant is to be more demanding of the ball in end game situations and get a little better on th

The last two years have been in amazing in Thunder basketball. Some think the window has closed, and with the trade of Harden this season may end earlier thalong run it should make the team better as whole. I see the Thunder making it at least to the Western Conference Finals; I just dont see them making another ru
