Congratulations on Attaining the Rank of Eagle Scout
April 22, 2014
Matt Hetzler Dear Matthew,
Congratulations. Becoming an Eagle Scout is indeed quite an accomplishment. You are now part of an elite group of people: presidents, astronauts, pillars of communities and also men like the leaders of Troop 318; ordinary in appearance, but extraordinary in character. These men have been your mentors, ordinary men doing extraordinary things, helping boys become men the Scouting way. If you follow their lead you will live a rewarding life.
You have far exceeded my accomplishments in Scouting, so I appreciate having the opportunity to share in yours. I remember fondly the trips to Ransburg Scout Reservation. Though I hardly saw you those weeks, I knew you were hard at work, having fun and earning merit badges. I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Boundary Waters. I am remembering a particular day, watching from the rear, of an exciting shoot through a rapid, a capsized canoe, and lost fishing poles. Then you turned to me and asked, “Is it our turn now?” The kid in me was saying yes. But the answer was “No”... we portaged. Two years later was the trip to Philmont. This has to be one of the ultimate Scouting experiences. We spent two weeks in the mountains hiking, camping, climbing, trapping “mini bears,” and even found time for a shower or two. I will always treasure these moments. Thank you, Matt.
Of course none of this could happen without the support of the troop. That is the great thing about Scouting with Troop 318, they give all boys a chance to participate. They embrace the diversity of the boys and allow them to participate when time allows. This allows boys to pursue their other interests and still stay in Scouting; Matt you certainly had your share of other interests. But you kept coming back to Scouting and ultimately achieved Eagle Scout. Thank you Troop 318.
Matthew, always remember the ideals of Scouting, live by the 12 points of the Scout Law. Scouting has laid a solid ground for you to travel. Go forward now and seize your dreams.
Love Dad
Dear Matthew,
We want to congratulate you on earning the rank of Eagle Scout, and to let you know that we are so very proud of you! You now have in your possession an honor that will be with you throughout your life that you should take extreme pride in!
We still remember your years as a Cub Scout. Then, as a Boy Scout, we watched you grow in knowledge and character as you embraced all that was offered to you through Troop 318. You have had so many wonderful, and sometimes very challenging, experiences that have benefited you and shaped you into the wonderful young man you are today. Attending summer camp at Ransburg, helping with the Special Olympics and Yukon Days, your adventures to the Boundary Waters and Philmont Scout Ranch, and your collection of musical instruments for underprivileged students, are just a few examples.
We remember when you attended your first campout (rainy!), and watched with a smile as you played football with the older scouts who nicknamed you “Devin Hetzler.” Then, as the years flew by, you were the older scout who guided and helped teach the younger scouts the ways of the scouting world, becoming a leader and a mentor. Your dedication and love for the Boy Scouts continued, even though your life became much busier as you entered high school and were involved in other activities.
The wonderful leaders and fellow scouts of Troop 318 have helped you become a responsible, knowledgeable and caring person who will do and inspire others to do great things during your time on this Earth.
We are so extremely proud of the young man that you have become, and all of your accomplishments thus far. We will love you always and forever!
Love, Mom, Dad and Lauren
Congratulations on Attaining the Rank of Eagle Scout

Jim Robley
Jim,
We are so very proud of you —both who you are
and what you have accomplished! The path to
Eagle is a long journey, you stayed the course
and finished up before time ran out. You have
always been very well rounded — giving 100% to
church, scouts, sports, and school. You made your
mind up early that you wanted to attain the
rank of Eagle, and worked hard toward it
during the year and at summer camp. You have
done so much, from building and sleeping in
your own shelter to leading a work crew and
helping further the Orland Grasslands vision.
We are sure you will take these skills and
accomplishments into adulthood and use
them to become the best man you can be!
We love you,
Mom & Dad

Matt Lusa
Dear Matt,
I was there when you came into this world, and ever
since then, you have made me very proud of you in
everything you’ve been involved in and everything
you’ve accomplished. You’re certainly the best
Eagle Scout there ever was. Everyone in the family
is very proud of you for all the hard work you
did to obtain your Eagle designation.
You mean the world
to me! Love you,
Gram
Dear Matt,
Son, you always shine so bright and bring so much sunshine into our lives…you are my greatest blessing! Wow, so many fun times we’ve enjoyed from Tiger to earning the Arrow of Light and throughout Boy Scouts. I couldn’t be prouder of the gentle, warm, caring young man you are, and now of the well-deserved honor you’ve earned…Eagle Scout! The BSA is certainly lucky to have you to represent their finest!
You’ve been blessed with so many talents, and I know you will continue to reach for the stars and be a star in all you choose to do. I’m so happy I was able to share almost 50 nights of camping under the same stars with you and your Scout friends — to see from a distance some of the many wonderful memories you were making. Thanks for always loving my involve-ment as a leader and as your mom…I loved it too!
Grandpa was so proud of you and to be your fellow Scout. It was special to share the Shining Light Across America together. He’s crying his happy tears in Heaven…so proud of his fellow Arrowman, who’s now an Eagle, honored you’ll hold onto his “Dad” pin.
Congratulations Matt, and may God continue to bless you and be your guiding light. We love you so much!

Scout Vespers (A Tradition with Troop 318)
Everyone in attendance is invited to join in with members of the Troop in singing this campfire song.
Please join hands after crossing arms, right arm over left arm
To the tune of "O Tannenbaum"
Softly falls the light of day,
As our campfire fades away.
Silently each Scout should ask
Have I done my daily task?
Have I kept my honor bright?
When I go to sleep tonight,
Have I done and have I dared
Everything to Be Prepared?
Scoutmaster’s Benediction May the great Scoutmaster of all
true Scouts be with us until we meet again. Good Night Scouts.
