Microcomp Services was originally founded in 1994 by Paul & Linda Hru-

pka as a home based business. Our original goal was to provide PC sales and ser-

vice, but over the years, the computer industry has rapidly changed and so has Mi-

crocomp. In 1999, with Y2K knocking at our door, Microcomp Services quickly

became a full-time job, and then some. In 2005, the company moved in with Acme

Office Equipment. Together, Microcomp and Acme have been able to provide their

customers a "Complete Solution" for their office needs.

At Microcomp Services, our mission has always been to provide high quality, afford-

able pc computer repair for your home or business. For the past 18 years, Micro-

comp Services has been providing fast, reliable service for thousands of customers

throughout Southeast Wisconsin. We provide both on-site and in-shop repair ser-

vices, support, training, and consultation. We repair Dell, Sony, Gateway, Hewlett Packard, Compaq, Toshiba, Asus, E-machines,

and Clone computers.

Other services we provide include: Virus and Malware Removal, Laptop Troubleshooting and Repair, PC Setup / Installation,

One-on One PC Training / Tutoring, Wired and Wireless Network Installation, and Hardware & Software Upgrades and Installa-

tion. We are located at 1011 Main Street, Union Grove Wi. Our hours are 8 - 5 Monday - Friday. After Hours and weekend hours

are ava ilable by appointment. Feel free to contact us at 262-878-3986 or vis i t our

website at www.microcompservices.net.

Remembering Ruby

Remembering Ruby

The Union Grove community lost a treasure when Ruby Alswager passed

away on January 8. She was always an enthusiastic cheerleader for Union Grove.

She and her late husband Russell did not have children of their own, but youngsters

attending the Chamber’s Breakfast With Santa at the Masonic Temple hugged and

loved Ruby and sat on her lap to pose for parent’s photos as she portrayed Mrs.

Santa Claus. Also, area school children learned about early life in Union Grove and

Kansasville from Ruby and Mary Nichols of the American Legion Auxiliary. They

visited countless classrooms in period costumes and together were know as “The

History Ladies”. Adult students in 14 classes of Leadership Union Grove were

charmed by Ruby and Mary’s presentation on Alvin Colby and John Blakey who

both came to Union Grove in 1877. Each had a very different leadership style, but

both influenced and advanced the growth of Union Grove.

Ruby was involved in three big anniversary celebrations in Union Grove in

her 91 years. During the pageant written for the Centennial celebration in 1938

when she was 17, Ruby said she “portrayed an Indian and stood behind a tree”. For

the 125th anniversary in 1963 she portrayed a Sunday School teacher with children

seated at her feet. However, in 1988 for the 150th anniversary, Ruby was persuad-

ed to be Chair of the Sesquicentennial Pageant at the fairgrounds, a huge production

with over 300 participants. Lately Ruby had been expressing regret that 2013 is the

175th Anniversary of the founding of Union Grove, but no community-wide ob-

servance or celebration has been planned. Maybe it isn’t too late to fulfill her wish.

Well, It is officially 2013, Happy New Year. It has been a couple of months since I have had something in the chamber newsletter. We have been very busy at the chamber during that time. I would like to start by personally thanking everyone that helped with all of our Christ-mas events. It was another year of success. I would also like to thank Tina Hartlage and Kim Terpstra for putting on our December Lunch.

We have had some tough times over the past couple months. It is be-cause of our spectacular members that we have been able to get through it. Carol Knight has been a blessing in the office making sure that everything is taken care of and on track. Our hiring committee went through interviews in December. We had a lot of very strong can-didates and it was a very tough decision. We came to a conclusion and feel we have the perfect candidate for the job. I am sure by now you have read her bio in the newsletter, but I would like to welcome Jen-nifer Ditscheit as out new Executive Director. She is a very talented young lady and I know she will do wonderful things at the chamber.

This month we started by having a fantastic seminar on “Connecting with Customers”. Thanks to Don Meredith and Carolyn Preston for setting up this seminar for all of us to take advantage of. Our annual Chamber Choice awards banquet is taking place on Feb. 2. This year we are proud to be honoring Mr. Bill Martin, and Roger Palmen Auto Sales. We are look-ing forward to a wonderful evening. Our theme this year is Team Union Grove, so, put on your sports gear and join us for an evening of fun.

2012/2013 President

Eric Daniels

NEWS YOU CAN USE

On February 7, 1863, a steamboat carrying the Union Grove area boys of Company “A” 22nd . Wis. Infantry, reached Nashville,

TN. It was part of a flotilla of some 12,000 troops under General Gordon Granger sent to reinforce Rosecrans’s Army of the

Cumberland.

Charles W. Scutt was confined to his home with sciatic rheumatism. Hearing that his supply of firewood was running low. Nine

area men, including Wm. And Robert Beaty, John Bryce, Henry Pierce, John Zuloff, J. Parkinson, Elmer Graham, Wm. Bird,

and Henry Munroe, turned out and cut a supply of wood for the Scutt household. Scutt’s parent, who also resided in the home,

celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 255, 1888. Mr. and Mrs. Scutt were married in 1838 in Victor, New

York. They settled in Wisconsin, two mile north of Union Grove, in 1858.
