From the PrincipalProud History, Great Future!

This past week I had the opportunity to meet with all the members of the School Board. It was great to talk with parents and community members who are passionate about the education of the students at Boulder Primary School. During the meeting the Board members were provided information about the Code of Conduct, Terms of Reference, Training and the school uniform for further development. If you were not aware, this year the school board members include John Sheck, Fulu Sheck, Margaretta Hansen, Donna Shepherdson, Deborah Newman, Alana Chambers, Amyee Pervan and Janet Hill, all

of whom I thank for donating their time to be a part of this decision making group.

One item from the School Council meeting was the Early Childhood playground and equipment. I have spoken with many people since arriving and all the feedback I have received is this area needs a “face lift”. So, to combine our efforts and thoughts I would like start a working committee on the design, costing and later the implementation of an ECE Playground Plan. If this committee is something you think you would be interested in being a member of, please

let Donna Shepherdson know. Hopefully we can work together to have an interactive and engaging playground supporting the needs of our students.

Last Friday it was great to see the students engage and start their Arts-ternoon program. The students were offered a wide range of activities and were able to engage in Jump Jam, football, crotchet, claymation, sound and lighting, cultural dance and many more. Thanks to the staff for organising these great activities for the students to enjoy. I look forward to seeing the final product of these groups.

Proud History, Great Future! We all know the importance of regular attendance at school. So far this term our daily attendance fluctuates between 90.9% and 82.9%. As a school we have set our target for attendance equal to the state average which is around 92%. I would like to encourage families to ensure students get to school every day, it’s so important. Equally important is arriving at school on time. Sometimes with the colder weather it is harder to get out bed and get going, but arriving late at school can also have a significant impact on your child’s learning. Many lessons have started and students miss the important elements

of the teaching instruction. Unfortunately, at times, for some students they feel self-conscious, embarrassed and then become reluctant to start their learning. We can avoid this by being on time.

I know at the moment the Year 5/6 teachers are planning a fantastic camp to Perth for the Year 6 cohort. I have also been a part of the conversations surrounding the hard work required to fund raise in order to reduce the cost of camp. In the mean time I would highly recommend parents and carers start to pay, either in small sums or a lump sum, the fees for camp. If any parents are experiencing

difficulty to meet this demand, please come to the school and discuss with us your situation and options with us.

On my way to work this morning while listening to the radio I heard some sad news. The Dockers had beaten my beloved Hawthorn last night by 16 points. Obviously, the Dockers had more players on the field than Hawthorn. I hope Hawthorn can turn their performance around for their game.

Enjoy the week. Go Hawthorn!!

RegardsMr Callow
