We submit this Fourteenth volume of News Letter at the lotus feet of Srimath Swami

Chidbavananda, and Yatiswari Saradapriya Amba. Our humble pranams are due to Directress

Yatiswari Vinayakapriya Amba and Secretary Yatiswari Guhapriya Amba. We are thankful

to Dr. S. Niraimathi, M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D., M.Sc., Principal and H.O.D. of English for her

International Conference

Our department has organised Two-

Day International Conference on

"Contemporary Panorama of Bioscience

(ICCPoB ’19)" in association with Journal

of Emerging Technologies and Innovative

Research (JETIR), Sri Sarada College for

Women (Autonomous), Salem-16 on 6th

&

7th

February, 2019.

The conference has organised based on

scientific themes of Biodiversity viz.,. Pharmacology, phytochemistry, nutraceuticals

and functions food, Ethno botany, seaweed

biology, conservation of forests and so on.

Based on those themes, 69 colleges and 3

universities across the country have

participated, 169 abstracts of original

research works have submitted, of which

71 full length papers are published in UGC

approved journal JETIR. More than 300

participants have attended this conference

from various colleges and Universities of

India and Malaysia.

Resource persons Dr.Gnanasekaran

Ashok, Associate Professor and Director

of Centre for Research on Infectious

Diseases and Phytochemicals, Quest

International University, Perak, Malaysia

has spoken on the title one world! one

health. Dr.N.Geetha, Assistant Professor

of Biotechnology, University of Mysore,

Mysuru has given an interesting speech on

“Applications of Nanotechnology in Plant

Sciences. Dr.Murugesan Karthikeyan has

given a talk on “Understanding human

Microbiome”. Dr.K.Selvam, Professor and

Head of Botany, Periyar University, Salem

has presided over the valedictory function

of 2nd

day and felicitated the conference.

Board of Studies Meeting

Board of Studies was held on

02.02.2019 and 16.02.2019. Programme

outcome and course outcome have been

discussed for all the papers and few of

them have restructured and modified. AIF

and value education examination has been

changed to online exam from this

semester. The entire syllabi for B.Sc.

Botany programme has revised completely

based on UGC syllabus, New Delhi under

CBCS and TANSCHE with the major

change of changing paper title " The

Ecology and Plant Geography" (Paper X)

into " Plant Ecology".

Our department has organised One day

workshop on “The utilization of Foldscope”

on 24.08.2018 for I, II and III B.Sc. Botany

students and Dr. Prakash, Head, Department of

Biotechnology, Vivekananda College of Arts

& Science (Women), Tiruchengode was the

resource person.

One day Workshop on Hands on

Training on "Cut Flower Arrangements" for I

and II B.Sc. Botany students conducted on

08.12.2018 and Dr. B. Uma Maheswari,

Assistant Professor of Botany was acted as a

resource person.

As a part of skill based - II on “Home

Gardening and Floriculture” students of I

B.Sc. Botany have raised Herbal garden,

Kitchen garden, Ornamental and Terrace

garden. The raised saplings from these garden

were exhibited for sale in our department.

of Philosophy on 21st January 2019 at

PSGR Krishnammal College for Women,
