LEAD THE WAY: Alex Cora became the 3rd individual in the Expansion Era (1961-present) to lead a team to the World Series in his 1st season as an MLB manager, joining Bob Brenly (2001 D-Backs) and Ralph Houk (1961 Yankees)...Both of those clubs went on to win the series.

Only 4 people have won the World Series in their 1st season as an MLB manager: Brenly, Houk, Eddie Dyer (1946 Cardinals), and Bucky Harris (1924 Senators).

Cora is the 6th manager to lead the Red Sox to the World Series in his 1st season with the club, joining Jake Stahl (1912), Ed Barrow (1918), Dick Williams (1967), Terry Francona (2004), and John Farrell (2013).

ALUMNI RELATIONS: This is the 1st time both managers in the World Series played for both teams (source: Elias)...Alex Cora appeared in 684 games with LAD (1998-2004) and 301 games with BOS (2005-08)...Dave Roberts played in 302 games for LAD (2002-04) and 45 for BOS (2004).

Cora and Roberts were teammates with LAD in 2004, appearing in the same starting lineup 52 times.

UPGRADES: Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski acquired Steve Pearce from TOR on 6/28, Nathan Eovaldi from TB on 7/25, and Ian Kinsler from LAA on 7/30...This postseason, Eovaldi is 2-0 with a 1.76 ERA (3 ER/15.1 IP), Pearce has a .382 OBP with 8 runs scored and 1 HR, and Kinsler has 3 doubles, 2 RBI, and 4 runs scored.

In Dombrowski’s first 3 full seasons with BOS (2016-18), the Red Sox have won 3 AL East titles and posted MLB’s highest regular-season winning percentage (.605, 294-192)...The only other teams to qualify for the postseason in each of the last 3 years are CLE, CHC, and LAD.

ROAD WARRIORS: The Red Sox are 5-0 on the road in the postseason, having out-scored the Yankees and Astros by a combined 40-13 margin away from Fenway Park...Prior to facing the Sox, HOU and NYY had been a combined 17-1 in home playoff games in 2017 and 2018.

This is the Sox’ longest road winning streak in postseason history...They are 1 of only 7 teams ever to win 5+ consecutive road games in a single postseason (1st since the 2014 Royals)...The only teams to win as many as 6 straight road games in a single postseason are the 2005 White Sox (went 6-0) and 1996 Yankees (went 8-0), who both went on to win the World Series.

STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM: The Red Sox became the 11th team in MLB history to hit 3+ HR from the No. 9 spot in the batting order in a single postseason (Bradley-2, Vázquez-1)...The record for most HR from the No. 9 spot in a single postseason is 4 (2002 Angels, 2014 Royals, 2016 Cubs).

In the ALCS, Jackie Bradley Jr. became the 1st player in MLB history to have 3 straight multi-RBI games in the postseason from the No. 8 or 9 spots in the batting order.

HOW WE GOT HERE: The Red Sox defeated NYY in the ALDS, 3 games to 1...The Sox had 18 hits in a 16-1 win in Game 3, the largest margin of victory by a road team in postseason history.

In the ALCS vs. HOU, the Red Sox hit 5 HR and averaged 5.8 runs per game...In the regular season, Astros pitchers led the majors in ERA (3.11), WHIP (1.10), opponent AVG (.217), and SO/9.0 IP (10.44).
