Brett Favre was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round, 33rd overall in the 1991 NFL Draft. On July 19, 1991, Favre agreed to a three-year, $1.4 million contract with a reported signing bonus of $350,000.

Atlanta coach Jerry Glanville did not approve of the drafting of Favre, saying “it would take a plane crash for him to put Favre into the game.”

Favre's first pass in an NFL regular season game resulted in an interception returned for a touchdown. He only attempted four passes in his career at Atlanta (was intercepted twice, and completed none of them.)Favre did take one other snap, which resulted in a sack for an eleven yard loss.

“The Early Years”Began playing in 1992

In the second game of the 1992 season, the Packers played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers were leading 17–0 athalftime when head coach Mike Holmgren benched starting quarterback Don Majkowski and Favre played the second half. Onhis first regular season play as a Packer, Favre threw a pass that wasdeflected and caught by himself. Favre was tackled and the completion went for −7 yards. The Packers lost the game 31–3, chalking up only 106 yards passing

In the third game in that same season, Don Majkowski injured a ligament in his ankle and was done for the season. Favre came in and led the Packers on a game winning drive. The Packers beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-17.

After that game, Brett Favre was named the starter for the Green Bay Packers.

“Mid Career”

Brett Favre had one of the best games of his career- December 23, 2003,the day after his father, Irv Favre, passed away. Favre passed for fourtouchdowns in the first half and 399 total yards in a 41–7 victory over the Oakland Raiders. Afterwards, Favre said, "I knew that my dad would have wanted me to play. I love him so much and I love this game. It's meant a great deal to me, to my dad, to my family, and I didn't expect this kind of performance. But I know he was watching tonight.“

After the death of Irv Favre, more tragedies hit the Favre family: 1. October 2004: Favre’s brother-in-law, Casey Tynes,

was killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident on Favre's Mississippi property.

2. Soon after that, Favre’s wife, Deanna, was diagnosed with breast cancer

3. In late August 2005, Hurricane Katrina struck the Favre familyHome and damaged the family property.

In 2006, Favre suffered his first career shutout against the ChicagoBears. In that same season, the New England Patriots shut out the Packers.

In 2007 on Thanksgiving Day, Favre won the Gobbling Turkey award.

Retirement?At the end of the 2006 season, Favre had an interview at the end of the Chicago Bears game. He began to tear upand said his future was questionable. But he was back for the 2007 season

At the end of the 2008 season, Favre announced his retirement from football. On July 2, 2008, Favre changed hi s mind and wanted to return to the Packers. After going through a long process of working with the Packers, Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy both decided it was time to part ways.

On August 7, 2008 Brett Favre was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets.

On December 29, 2008, Favre had complained of shoulder pain and was given an MRI, which revealed a torn biceps tendon in his right shoulder. After the 2008 season had ended (mid January 2009) Favre told Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum, "it may be time to look in a different direction" regarding the quarterback position.

On February 11, 2009, Favre informed the Jets that he was retiring after 18 seasons. He remained property of the New York Jets organization, until April 28, 2009, when the Jets released Favre from his contract, thus allowing him to sign anywhere he wanted.

By May 2009, he was officially cut from the Jets Reserve/Retired list. In September 2009, Favre again made Jets news, as the NFL learned that the Jets were aware that Favre injured his arm in the eleventh game of the 2008 season, and fined the Jets $125,000 for not reporting the injury in any of the Jets' five final games.

It was reported by CBS, that on August 18, 2009, Brett Favre would sign with the Green Bay Packers arch rival, the Minnesota Vikings. That afternoon, pending a physical, Favre become a Viking.

In his first “season” with the Vikings, he led them to the NFC championship game. Favre and the Vikes lost that game in overtime to the New Orleans Saints. His last pass was an Interception.

After debating to return for another season, Favre decidedto return to the Vikings for another shot at going to the superbowl.

In 1996, Brett Favre advanced the Packers to there first superbowl (since Bart Starr): Superbowl XXXI. Favre played outstanding by completing 14 of 27 passes for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Packers ended up winning the game 35-21 over the New England Patriots.

The following season (1997-1998), the Packers made it back to the Superbowl. In Superbowl XXXII , the outcome wasn’t what was expected. The Packers lost to the Denver Broncos 31-24. Favre didn’t play his greatest: completed 25 of 42 passes for 256 yards and 3 touchdowns, with 1interception and 1 fumble in the losing effort.
