Principal Report Election Day Thank you
Thank you to our P&C volunteers for running the
BBQ during election voting on Saturday. The P&C
work constantly to raise money for our school and
on behalf of our students, staff and parents I would
like to thank them for their tireless work. Keep an
eye out as our P&C asks for volunteers and
donations for our fete late in Term 3.
Thank you also to our Year 6 students, selling
Lamingtons on Saturday to raise money for the
Stage 3 Canberra trip. What a wonderful way to
keep costs down for our parents.
Open Classrooms – Fleming Warm ups
KM, 2K and 5/6L welcomed our parents into their
classrooms this week. Over eighteen community
members visited our whirlwind classroom tour and
witnessed first-hand a snapshot of the amazing
work that our teachers are doing in each classroom.
Thank you to our parents for taking time out of your
busy day to visit with us.
Over a cold drink and cake Mrs Monaghan and I
were able to talk with parents about the changes
that have occurred in our classrooms this year and
the positive effects on the learning for our students.
Parents were deeply impressed by the
professionalism of our teachers, the complexity of
the work that students were able to achieve and the
engagement of all of our students. Parents were
also amazed, particularly in our Stage 3 classroom,
that every student moved quickly through complex
tasks with 100% effort and attention. I would like to
acknowledge in particular Mrs Morris, Mrs Kinnaird
and Mr Lewis for being our first teachers to openly
demonstrate their teaching for the community.
Have a safe and relaxing holiday.

Easter Hat Reminder Just a little reminder that our Easter Hat Parade will take place on Thursday, 2nd April, starting at 12.20pm Easter hats need to be made at home and brought in to school on Thursday morning. Senior students (only children in Years 5 and 6) may choose to create a mask instead of an Easter hat. Students are required to wear their Sports uniform or house colours. Looking forward to a fabulous fun-filled end to our first school term. Lisa Monaghan & Cathy Johnson Parade Coordinators
5/6L Classroom News Artist Research Project In anticipation of our Canberra Excursion and our visit to the National Art Gallery, 5/6L have begun researching prominent Australian artists. Each student is creating an electronic presentation on an artist and their portfolio of work. Whilst Sidney Nolan has been a popular choice, the students have selected a wide variety of visual artists and sculptors like Albert Tucker, Frederick McCubbin, Arthur Streeton and Margaret Preston. We're looking forward to sharing our presentations with the school at the end of term.
5/6Q Classroom News Welcome to 5/6Q. This term we have made great progress in our imaginative writing and Mathematics. Using the Fleming Schools guide to teaching we have developed and implemented wonderful warm-ups before each learning session to place information in student’s long-term memory. Using this strategy we have already seen great growth in the engagement and learning of students. We have had a very productive term. We have learned many different literary devices, including; simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, personification, allusion, oxymoron, and paradox. We have read and enjoyed the novel ‘Rowan of Rin’ and used the book to develop our ever-expanding vocabularies. Also, we have placed a focus on ‘Walls that Teach’, reinforcing every day the new concepts we learn. In Mathematics we have excelled in learning difficult concepts, whole number (including triangle and square numbers), long multiplication, long division, number patterns, area, and length have all been a focus throughout the term. Our classroom engagement and behaviour continues to improve. We have even planted an amazing vegetable garden that families can reap the benefit of in the future. Our class has also made sure our chicken friends are happy and healthy! I am very proud of the progress we have made this term and look forward to an exciting year ahead.
