Angelina Ballerina

At the risk of perpetuating gender stereotypes, we are compelled to include this series in our list. Girls simply love this. It is about a helpful little mouse wholoves to dance. Makes for plenty of dressing up and role play. A lesson in following your passion.

Fantastic Mr Fox (Roald Dahl)

Probably a little too advanced for any 4-year old, butthe story is simply awesome. Mr. Fox is indeed fantastic, not to mention resourceful. We think this isthe first Roald Dahl book a kid should own. The morality angle is slightly grey, but hey, it’s just a story!

Charlie and Lola

Two adorable kids. One is inquisitive and expressive. The other is older and caring (?). Written from the kids’ perspective, this series appeals to kids in the range of 3-6 years.

The Princess and the Wizard

A smart and resourceful princess, for a change. We’drather have our daughters (and sons) read this, than Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty. We’ve received reports of two year olds enjoying it, and we’ve received reports of eight year olds refusing to part with it.

Mr Men and Little Miss

There are over a hundred of these cute tiny books. While the little ones do love them, they are a boon for expresive parents too. There’s nothing better than getting into a character and watching your kid grin and giggle in amusement.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

Ideal for reading together with your kid. Highly descriptive words that feed kids’ imaginations. And plenty of action to keep them engrossed.

We don’t have it at the moment, but Amazon does.

Each Peach Pear Plum

An all-time classic. Good on its own, but far more interesting to kids who have already read plenty. Themore aware a kid is, the more characters she can spot, and the more fun it gets to be!

Where the Wild Thing Are

A sort of Alice In Wonderland and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy rolled into one, but for kids. Whacky and imaginative.

We don’t have it at the moment, but Amazon does.
