Claire NolanPresident ofAlki Tours & lifelong World Traveller

There are certain places and events that are lifetime essentials on my own “bucket list”, especially as a nature lover.  One of them I’ve had the good fortune to witness is standing beneath the fabled Northern Lights.  I’ll never forget the first time I saw them in Iceland.  A ghostly green, yellow and pink glow undulating like a sheet in the sky. I was transfixed.

There are only a handful of places in the world to have an opportunity to catch the Northern Light phenomena.  What I love about Iceland is the landscape–you can literally stand in one location and see active volcanos, waterfalls that look like they start in the heavens, glaciers with crevasses that appear to fall to the ends of the earth, crystal blue steaming geothermal lagoons that are punctuated with snow-covered lava rocks–all while watching a mesmerizing light show in the sky. Add to that the genuine hospitality of the Icelandic people and it’s all magic.

Whether a soft green, shimmering pink or white coils floating overhead–it is an experience I will never forget, and neither will you.

Happy travels!

Claire Nolan

Wonderous Iceland. Like a friendly Jurassic Park.
