The building form is derived from the nature of the spaces: the studios that contains creative minds and supporting facilities that caontains less motions. The form is divided into two parts, the fl ow and the box. The fl ow holds all the studios and working spaces and uses light steel structure while the box holds classrooms, libraries and offi ces. The contrast of the two spaces can be differ-entiated by structure, skin and circulation patterns. To make the two spaces more coherent, the fl ow goes into the box to form the interior atrium. Standing in the atrium, one can observe all four spaces, studios, business center, classrooms and galleries.

This project is a continuous project after a research trip on grassroot economy in Guangzhou, China. The project aims at creating a new spatial relationship between production and retailing. Instead of separating the two spaces by floors, individual modules that contain personal display/working space and shared production spaces are repeated. The two main design concept is flexibility and moduality.

- Direct access to both production and retail space- Immediate connection with design-ers and production space- Modules are spatially flexible and can be repeated as many as needed

The idea of funneling movement and a big staircase that leads to the entrance on the second floor forces visitors to move up and discover the view to the waterfront. Cafes, public forums and exterior sculptural gardens along the way attract people to move to the waterfront.

The museum creates an industrial feeling inside to reflect the character of the art collection and the island itself. The slanted atrium is surrounded by concrete load-bearing columns that mimic old steel crane-like structures. At the same time, it filters the light and keeps a consistent soft light in the galleries.

However, circulation wraps around the atrium that visitors can experience a brighter and more open feeling when moving from one space to another.

Project: Kyoto Station Plaza (Group)

Location: Kyoto, Japan

Studio: Japan Study Abroad Summer 2010

Media: Watercolor

Located at the transportion hub in downtown Kyoto, the site serves as a Key green plaza space for locals and tourists, Surrounded by highrise and the train station designed by Hi-roshi Hara, the “breathing spot” plaza brings in nature. Among the cold steel and concrete structures, the breathing spot allows people to stop and relax.

The garden is a sunken garden that descends from two sides with the entrance to the un-derground mall in the center. As one walks towards the middle, the business of the city gradually becomes cherry blossom, maple trees, hydrainus and water. The idea is to create a contrasting atmosphere with differnt levels and layering.

The west side of the garden contains a plat-form where local performers are encouraged to perform activating the area.
