  • Plastic bottle caps collection for a wonderful cause - UPDATE AFTER WEEK 1After the first week of collecting plastic bottle caps which are going to be recycled into prosthetic limbs for children in need, there has been such a positive and overwhelming show of support from the whole school community. Every class from K-6, staff and the canteen have worked together and contributed to our whole school collective box, which is almost completely full!

It is even great to see that classes are integrating this initiative with mathematics lessons. 1K have been extremely busy keeping a daily tally count, grouping and sorting their bottle caps. 1K collected a total of 978 bottle caps for just their class in one week. Awesome effort everybody, keep up the enthusiasm and happy collecting! 4V students will go around to all classes again next Friday to collect.

This is such a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in children’s lives, minimize our impact on the environment and help show the world what can be

    Stage 3 News

Battle of the MindsOn Wednesday, eight of our Stage 3 students attended the Battle of the Minds tournament at Rose Bay Public School. The students competed against 10 other local schools to solve puzzles, riddles and much more! It was a pleasure to see the teamwork and excitement from these students who represented Bondi Beach Public School with pride.

"We enjoyed many of the different challenges at Battle of the Minds, one of them being the Rebus puzzles. The main reason we enjoyed this challenge was because we had to think about the image in ways we normally wouldn't. We also liked Einstein's Riddle. This was due to the fact that it was challenging and it helped us think about riddles in a new way."

Year 6 team- Jagger, Lynda, Amelia and Josh W

"We enjoyed figuring out answers, as it was challenging but fun at the same time. The hardest activity was Einstein's Riddle, but another activity that was really challenging was the team challenge. Two people couldn't use their hands and two people were blindfolded and we had to make a strong windproof structure. It was also a very good feeling when we spent ages working out something and it was right!"

Year 5 team- Olivia, Lewis, Josh B and Hanna

    Well Done!

    P&C News

P&C MeetingWe have our next P&C meeting on Tuesday the 12th November at 7pm in the staff room. This will be our AGM where we present audited financials along with hearing from the Canteen, Hive, Uniform shop and our fundraising and events efforts. Alexia will also present a Principal’s report so its an excellent catch-up for anyone who feels they want to know a bit more about what’s happening behind the scenes. We stick quite well to a 7-8.30pm deadline so you can plan to be home shortly after that.

Being the AGM, my position as El Presidente is also up for grabs. I’ve been in the role for more than 3 years (its closer to five). If someone would like the title, then I cannot stand again. So if you feel like adding something to your resume and want to get a bit deeper into school life, it’s a wonderful opportunity. It doesn’t require that much of your time. If nobody chooses to stand, I will happily continue in the role for another year.

We have added a new co-ordinator for our fundraising efforts and the delightful

  • Arielle Nakache-Moulay has stepped forward to steer that. We will allocate some time each meeting to brainstorming different event opportunities. Ones that we’ve had in the past for example are a Moonlight Cinema, an Aboriginal Art fair and of course our kids disco which is the Glowchella event happening this Friday. So if you are a creative type, we’re always open to something new. And the events are as much a chance for the parent community to get together as they are for fundraising purposes.

We are also looking for someone that has grant application experience as there are many different grant opportunities that sit squarely within our remit of being a school P&C body, but also a space that serves the community. We shall ask at the meeting for any takers for this spot as well.

And if you have volunteered at the school in any capacity whatsoever this year and have not yet received an invite to our Volunteer’s drinks at Shuk, please send an email to Antje at [email protected]. Something like a quarter of all school families have at least one parent helping out which is a staggeringly large number when we are all time short and its worth celebrating that – and so we will.

    Thanks,

    RobEl Prez

Festivillion BBPS kids have been getting creative! Our choir, our violin group and many dancers have been working for weeks to get together some fantastic entertainment which will be showcased at Bondi Pavilion as part of Festivilion on Sat 16 November. Our Hive kids have been working on amazing artwork which will be shown throughout the Pavilion in giant cut outs and marine sculptures.

There will be free art workshops and 'clayplay' for the kids. Free music all day including 16 rock bands from Rose Bay Secondary College, jazz and choir performances. Wander through and see the marine installation, grab some food from the sizzle, and the chai tent and enjoy the fair atmosphere. Half of BBPS will be there. Come and enjoy our local community festival. All free.
