From the Classroom
English: Students in both classes have begun our new SMART Spelling program this week. It is a comprehensive and explicit approach to the teaching spelling, recommended to us by another school who have seen excellent results. I would like to thank Michelle Hutchison, who developed this program, for offering it to our school for free. Maths: Students are finishing Measurement (length, perimeter, volume and capacity) and will be moving onto multiplication and division next. Maths Mastery is going well in both classes. Science: We are studying trees in science with a focus on Eucalypts and their behaviour through fire and drought. It is a very interesting unit of study to be doing at the moment! Following this we will be continuing our focus on endangered species. History/Geography: Students have begun to learn about Japan this term. Topics will include: environments compared to ours, cultural features including dress, food and art. Music: Students will be learning ukulele and recorder with Mrs Parker and Mrs Costanzo on Fridays. Philosophy: Students will continue their studies on philosophy and the unique contributions of great thinkers around the world. Sport: Students will be learning ball skills and be playing soccer this term with Mrs Costanzo. PDHPE: Students will participate in the Department of Education’s Child Protection program this term, with our school counsellor Ms Fieldhouse. Copies of the program for each stage level have been sent to all parents.
