Mesquite St. · Los Fresnos, Texas 78566 Regular Board Meeting Sept. 8, 2014 Board Approves Student Health Services Coordinator, Two Teachers The Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring of two teachers and a new Coordinator. Diana Davis (pictured), current Nurse at Resaca Middle School, will move into the administrative position as Coordinator of Student Health Services. Teachers appointed were: Nicole Solomon Hernandez, Olmito Elementary Norma Cruz, Palmer-Laakso Elementary School Teachers Recognized for Advanced Degrees Five teachers were recognized by Los Fresnos CISD trustees for achieving master’s degrees at Monday’s meeting. Three teachers were present. They included (left to right): Karina Lucio, Dora Romero Elementary. Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, The University of Texas at Brownsville. Luis Gonzalez Rodriguez, Los Fresnos High School. Master of Public Policy and Management, The University of Texas at Brownsville; Advanced Graduate Certificate in International Affairs with emphasis on Diplomacy, George Busy School of Government, Texas A&M University. Elizabeth Garcia, Los Fresnos High School. Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics to the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language, University of Jaén, Spain. Also receiving degrees, but not present, were: Amanda Hernandez, Rancho Verde Elementary. Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, The University of Texas at Brownsville. Antonio Padilla, Los Fresnos United. Master of Education in Education Leadership, The University of Texas at Brownsville. Board Congratulates LFHS AP Scholars Thirteen Los Fresnos High School students received recognition from the Board for receiving AP Scholar Awards from the College Board for demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams. Eight of the students were present. They included (left to right): AP Scholars: Briana Du, Natalie Macias, Jordan Sales, Peyton Sales. AP Scholars with Honors: Viviana Obregon, Whitney Ortiz, and Lauren Spier. AP Scholars with Distinction: Audrey Urbis. Not present were AP Scholars Pablo Gervacio and Gerardo Gomez, AP Scholars with Honors Morgan Clark and Sergio Montoya, and AP Scholar with Distinction Brianna Garcia.

Board Approves Student Health Services Coordinator, Two TeachersThe Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring of two teachers and a new Coordinator.

Teachers Recognized for Advanced DegreesFive teachers were recognized by Los Fresnos CISD trustees for achieving master’s degrees at Monday’s meeting.

Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees

Board meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Los Fresnos CISD Board Room/Training Center, located next to Los Fresnos Elementary School on Texas Highway 100.

The next Regular Board Meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 6. The meeting will be held on that date because Oct. 13 – the second Monday of October – is a student holiday, and all district campuses and offices willbe closed that day.

Pledge of Allegiance: Palmer-Laakso Elementary School students started the Board meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Pictured are PLE students (left to right) Lorena Lopez, Jesse Valdez and Katalina Cisneros.

Golfer Recognized: Los Fresnos High School sophomore Brianna Garza was the lone member of the Falcon golf teams present to receive recognition from the board. Coach Luis Gonzalez addressed the board about the golf team’s success.
